Women’s Soccer Returns Home to Host Houston Sunday

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's soccer returns home on Sunday, Oct. 17 to welcome Houston in an American Athletic Conference battle. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN+ from the Temple Sports Complex. 
 
The Owls 
  • The Owls picked up their fourth win of the season on Tuesday, defeating LIU, 2-1 on the road. A late second half push, including a 74th minute goal from Hailey Gutowski and 82nd minute goal by Sumaya Togba proved to be just enough to propel the Owls to victory. 
  • Standout forward, Emily Kavanaugh, dished out her first assist of the season on Tuesday, advancing to 15 points on the year. Kavanaugh has netted a career high of seven goals, sitting at first in the AAC in goals per game (0.64) and tying for second in the AAC in overall goals. 
  • Hailey Gutowski has proved to be a playmaker for the Cherry and White this year, recording an even three goals and three assists. Gutowksi's most dominant showings came in both 3-0 wins over Drexel and St. Joseph's, notching one goal and an assist in each.  
  • Lexy Endres' has showcased her talent in the midfield, dishing out five assists on the year to enter the week tied for second in the AAC in conference play assists. In just her second year as an Owl, the standout midfielder is now tied for eighth in program history in career assists (9) and tenth in the single season assists (5) dating back to the start of the program in 1991.
  • Playing in 10 games and clocking 940 minutes this season, Kamryn Stablein remains a force in goal for the Cherry and White, entering the week averaging 6.10 saves per game to earn a first-place spot on the American Athletic Conference leaderboard. Stablein's performance this season also puts her at 25th in the national rankings for saves per game.
Scouting Houston 
  • Houston enters the match with an overall record of 10-3-2 (2-1-1 AAC), tying the program record for most wins in a single season. 
  • The Cougars only conference loss came last Sunday in a double overtime match against ECU. Despite outshooting the Pirates 20-5, the Pirates forced the game into overtime, eventually finding the game-winner in the 102nd minute.
  • The Cougar offense is led by graduate student Zionah Browne and redshirt freshman Nadia Kamassah. Browne has shown her versatility this year, netting four goals while adding seven assists to lead the team in points (15). Kamassah has shown her consistency, netting five goals and adding an assist.
  • Goalkeeper Mikaela Gracia has recorded 1232 minutes in goal, making 29 saves for a 0.725 save percentage.
  • Last year, the Cougars secured their first winning season in 11 years with a record 6-4-1 (3-4-0 AAC).
Game Notes
The matchup between the Owls and the Cougars marks the ninth time the teams have met in program history with a contest record of 6-2-0. The teams' last meeting came in 2020-21, where the Owls dropped to Houston 0-3 in the final game of the season. Prior to 2020-21, the Owls were on a three-game winning streak against the Cougars dating back to 2017.
