10.8.21 | Field Hockey
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - After dropping its first league game of the season last weekend at Georgetown, the Temple field hockey team bounced back with a 1-0 win at Providence Friday afternoon. With the win, the Owls improve to 7-4 (3-1 BIG EAST) while the Friars fall to 5-8 (1-3 BIG EAST).
Recapping the Game

> Temple was able to score the go-ahead goal early in the second quarter, with Grace Angelella finding the back of the net off the redirect on the penalty corner attempt.
> The Cherry and White defense stood tall in the second half, allowing just three shots and one penalty corner in the final two frames.
Statistically Speaking
> The Owls held a slight advantage in shots (5-4), with Claire Thomas posting a game-leading two and Kerrie Lorenz, Angelella, and Cassie Romanczuk each firing one.
> Megan Ragusa recorded one of the team's two saves, while Nienke Oerlemans made her third defensive save of the season.
> Temple held Providence to just two penalty corners, the fourth time this season that the Friars have been held to two or fewer corners.
> This is the league-leading fifth shutout of the season for the Cherry and White, with the team ranking 11th in shutouts per game (0.40) going into the weekend.
Quotable
> "Today was a collective effort from our entire group. Providence is a very strong team and we knew it was going to be a battle until the very end. We really came together this week after last weekend's loss for a critical and must-win conference game. We are very proud of their performance and are excited to see the continued growth from this group! We have really focused on capitalizing on our counters, earning more positive outcomes, and finishing. We were able to connect on one of our corners today which put us in the lead early, so to see the effort to hold on to that lead was incredible. Our defense was really strong today with a big defensive save and the shutout. We really played as a unit and want to continue that effort going into another strong opponent in Lehigh on Sunday." – Michelle Vittese
