PHILADELPHIA – Temple (3-8, 1-6) lost to the Tulsa Golden Hurricane (5-6, 4-3) in Oklahoma, 44-10. The Owls got in a hole early on in this one, falling behind by 27 points going into the second half. From there, Temple was unable to claw its way back into the game.
How It Happened
First Quarter
Temple won the toss and elected to receive. On the Owls' initial drive, after picking up a first down, the Tulsa defense forced an Adam Barry punt. Immediately following, Tulsa's offense was sparked by a pair of 25-yard completions by QB Davis Brin, and was capped off by a 21-yard touchdown to WR JuanCarlos Santana to make it 7-0. Temple's offense was able to move down the field on their second drive until an interception by SAF TieNeal Martin at the Tulsa one-yard line ended the drive. The Golden Hurricane got right back to work with their aerial attack, moving the ball into Temple territory after a few passing plays. The Owls' defense held firm, however, holding Tulsa to a 44-yard field goal by K Zach Long to make the score 10-0. The ensuing Temple drive led to a punt.
Second Quarter
Early into the second quarter, after converting twice on fourth down to keep their drive alive, an eight-yard touchdown pass from Brin extended the lead. A punt on Temple's next drive led to a Tulsa field goal to make it 20-0. A few drives later, Temple went for it on fourth down, but failed to convert, giving the ball back to the Golden Hurricane in great field position. From there, Tulsa capitalized on the opportunity, scoring its third touchdown of the night to take a 27-point advantage into the break.
Third Quarter
The Owls attempted an onside kick to begin the half, but failed to recover, however, on the first play of Tulsa's drive, SAF DaeSean Winston forced a fumble to get the ball right back. Temple picked up four first downs, and K Rory Bell converted a 33-yard field goal to make it 27-3. Tulsa answered back on its next drive, scoring a touchdown to make it 34-3. The Owls found the end zone on their next drive, driving 65 yards in six plays to cut the deficit. A Justin Lynch touchdown pass to Amad Anderson Jr. capped off the scoring drive.
