Women's Basketball Bounces Back Against Bucknell, 59-46

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple women's basketball team (2-2, 0-0) bounced back in a big way on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Bucknell Bison (1-2, 0-0) 59-46. The Owls put together their best shooting performance of the season, draining seven threes. Freshman Tiarra East and graduate Mia Davis led the team with 16 and 14 points, respectively.
Statistical Leaders
> Tiarra East led the team with a career-high 16 points.
> Mia Davis and Kyra Wood combined for 19 of the teams 41 rebounds.
> Mia Davis forced two steals of Bucknell's 11 turnovers.
First Quarter: Temple 19, Bucknell 13
> Temple got off to a good start thanks in large part to seven early points from Davis.
> A series of threes gave the Bison the lead midway through the first quarter.
> The Owls answered back, however, as a bucket from Alexa Williamson and a three-pointer from Tiarra East put the Owls in the lead, 15-11.
> Towards the end of the quarter, a layup from Jasha Clinton and a fast break layup by Emani Mayo gave the Owls a six-point lead heading into the second quarter.
Second Quarter: Temple 35, Bucknell 26
> Early buckets by East and Davis extended the Owls lead to 10.
> The Temple defense shut down the Bison in the second quarter, holding them scoreless for nearly four minutes.
> In the final seconds of the half, East drained her second three of the afternoon to stretch the Owls' lead to nine.
Third Quarter: Temple 48, Bucknell 34
> Davis got the Cherry and White rolling in the third quarter with a quick layup
> A few minutes later, three successive three pointers, two from Clinton and one from Mayo, gave the Owls their largest lead of the game, 46-32.
> The Owls' defense continued to impress in the second half as Temple only allowed eight points in the quarter.
Fourth Quarter: Temple 59, Bucknell 46
> The fourth quarter featured a defensive battle as only twelve total points were scored in the quarter's first nine minutes.
> Perfect free throw shooting from East, Mayo, and Jiselle Thomas closed out the game for the Owls.
