Men’s Soccer Concludes Season with 3-1 Defeat at USF

11.5.21 | Men's Soccer

TAMPA, FL. - The Temple men's soccer team (2-12-2, 0-10-0 AAC) concluded their season with a loss to the South Florida Bulls (6-8-2, 5-4-1, AAC) 3-1 Friday night. Senior captain Andres Charles tallied his first goal of the season in the lone score of the night for the Owls.

How it Happened
> USF opened up the scoring on the first shot of the night ('4).
> Senior keeper Goodwill Agbaadem made a strong play in the 11th minute. The keeper blocked a shot coming from just beyond the top of the box and quickly made a diving play on the rebound to deny any chance at an open goal.
> The Owls got on the board in the 21st minute thanks to a goal from Charles. Mike Eijgendaal won the ball of a Temple corner kick and made a bicycle pass to find Charles. The captain was able to settle the ball and fired a line drive to the back right corner of the goal for the equalizing score.
> The Bulls retook the lead five minutes later to go up 2-1.
> USF took the lead 2-1 into the halftime break.
> Agbaadem continued his strong play into the second frame, making two saves in the first 15 minutes to keep things within striking distance.
> USF scored off a penalty kick chance to extend the lead (3-1).
> Neither side was able to create a strong chance as time continued to run down, the Bulls won by a final tally of 3-1.

 Game Notes
> Charles ends the season with points in two straight matches.
> Eijgendaal's assist means he will finish second on the team in points (6)
> Agbaadem made five saves for the third straight game. Five ties his career-high.
> Seven yellow cards were issued in this match. Four were issued on Temple and three on USF.

From the Coach
> "I was disappointed for the seniors, this was a game I thought we could've pulled out. I wanted them to have a performance that they could look back fondly upon. They have had really good seasons here and been a part of some really great moments. We are not defined by one game or one stretch of games. We will get this program back on track and honor our seniors the right way by having a proper 2022 season."  -- head coach Brian Rowland on the graduating senior class.
