Women’s Basketball Seeks Redemption Wednesday at Cincinnati

PHILADELPHIA — The Temple women's basketball team heads to Cincinnati for their third-straight road game on Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 6 p.m. The Owls will look to win their first contest against Cincinnati this season after falling to the Bearcats 71-65 on Jan. 13 in Philadelphia. Wednesday's matchup at Fifth Third Arena will be aired on ESPN+. 

THE OWLS
> Temple enters Wednesday's game with a record of 5-7 (5-4 AAC). The Owls are currently ranked fifth in the American Athletic Conference. 
> The Owls are shooting 38.8% from the floor, 23.4% from three-point range, and 64.4% from the foul line thus far this season.  
> Senior Mia Davis leads the Owls with 18.0 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. The forward is shooting 47.3% from the floor thus far this season. 
> Rookie Jasha Clinton is Temple's second-leading scorer with 12.7 points per game, while adding 3.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.7 steals per game for the Owls. Clinton leads Temple in three-pointers (16) and steals (23).
> Junior Alexa Williamson is the third Owl averaging double-digit points this season with 10.8 per game. Williamson boasts a team-best field goal percentage of 48.4% and adds 6.7 rebounds per game for the Cherry and White. 
> Sophomore Asonah Alexander ranks 16th in the country with her 5.8 assists per outing. Alexander is also one of Temple's top rebounders with 6.7 per contest.

OWLS' LAST TIME OUT: Tulane 71, Temple 69
> Temple dropped their second-straight game at Tulane, 71-69, Sunday, Jan. 31 in New Orleans. 
> The Owls finished the game with a field goal percentage of 48.1% (25-52) while Tulane shot 41.2% (21-51). 
> Temple was held to just eight points in the second quarter as the Green Wave recorded 16 points. 
> Tulane's big third quarter proved to be the difference as the Green Wave outscored the Owls 28-19. 
> The Green Wave shot 47.4% from long range, while the Cherry and White were only able to register a 28.6 three-point shooting percentage. 
> Tulane capitalized on Temple's 16 turnovers as they finished the game with 19 points-off-turnovers. 
> Senior Mia Davis led the Owls with 22 points while adding five rebounds, three steals and two assists. 
> Sophomore Asonah Alexander led Temple in both rebounding and assists with nine and seven, respectively. 
> Freshman Jasha Clinton added 17 points for the Cherry and White and handed out five helpers. 
> Junior Alexa Williamson registered 15 points and seven rebounds while senior Emani Mayo rounded out the box score with 10 points, four rebounds and three assists. 

SCOUTING CINCINNATI
> The Bearcats sit at 3-10 on the year and 2-7 in AAC play. Cincinnati's two conference wins came against Wichita State on Jan. 2 (65-59) and Temple on Jan. 13 (71-65). 
> Ilmar'I Thomas leads the Bearcats with 23.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.0 blocks per game. 
> Thomas, alongside Temple's Mia Davis, was named the American Athletic Conference Preseason co-Player of the Year. 
> The forward was named to the Midseason Watch List for the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year by Her Hoop Stats. 
> The next highest scorer for Cincinnati is Jillian Hayes with 8.3 points per game. The guard adds 5.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 0.9 blocks each outing. 
> The Bearcats lead the AAC in blocks as they average 4.3 per contest. 

BEARCATS' LAST TIME OUT: Wichita State 60, Cincinnati 52
> Cincinnati fell to Wichita State 60-52 on Wednesday, Jan. 27 at home. 
> The Bearcats were trailing 50-38 heading into the fourth quarter, but Cincinnati used a 14-3 run to cut the Shockers' lead, 55-52. 
> However, Cincinnati missed their final five shots in the last two-and-a-half minutes and Wichita State walked away with the win. 
> Hayes led the Bearcats with 17 points, four assists and two steals. 
> Thomas and Arame Niang added 13 points apiece. 
> Cincinnati ended the game shooting 31.6% from the floor and 20% from three-point range. 

TEMPLE VS. CINCINNATI
> Temple leads the all-time series against the Bearcats, 7-6. 
> The first meeting between the two programs came on Jan. 18, 2014 in Cincinnati. The Owls walked away with a 58-47 victory. 

LAST TIME THEY MET: Cincinnati 71, Temple 65
> Cincinnati topped the Owls 71-65 in Philadelphia on Jan. 13 to break Temple's four-game winning streak. 
> Playing without junior Alexa Williamson, the Owls' second leading scorer, Temple was unable to maintain a lead despite going up by as many as six in the contest.
> Cincinnati had a slim one point edge at the half, which Temple erased quickly in the third.
> However, the Bearcats used strong free throw shooting and surged forward to lead by two at the end of the third, 51-49.
> Temple took the lead in the fourth quarter, but as was the story of the whole game, they couldn't maintain it. A late push by the Bearcats put the game just out of reach, as Temple snapped its conference win streak.
> Cincinnati out-shot the Owls 44% to 39%, working around a 1-11 (9%) performance from beyond the arc.
> The Bearcats also held an edge on the glass, pulling down 44 rebounds to Temple's 32.
Jasha Clinton had a career performance, with a collegiate best 23 points, also dishing out five assists.
> Mia Davis tallied 20 points with six boards. 
> Asonah Alexander had nine assists and six rebounds, while Emani Mayo had nine points.
> Kash Ayuso rounded out the box score with seven points and six rebounds.
