HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - For the first time since mid-November Temple Golf took swings outdoors, and as welcome as that was to the Owls, the result was as would be expected with the team placing 16th after the first two rounds of the Pinnacle Bank Intercollegiate at Palmetto Hall Monday.
Recapping the Day
First Round
> Senior transfer Peter Bradbeer led the Owls in the opening round, carding a two-over 74 to tie for 27th. The former Bucknell golfer aced his final hole (#5) to close the morning round strong.
> Senior captain Dawson Anders had two birdies over his first 18 holes and ended the morning round three-over 75 and tied for 36th overall.
> Junior Conor McGrath offset five bogeys and one double-bogey with a team-best four birdies to tie Anders with a round of 75.
> Sophomores Graham Chase and Andrew Curran struggled through rounds of 83.
Second Round
> McGrath was the only bright spot for the Owls in the afternoon round, shooting a two-over 74 to finish the day tied for 30th. He had three more birdies, but a triple bogey on the 14th hole kept him above par for the round.
> McGrath was tied for the best average (-2.75) on par threes while only nine of the 80 golfers had more birdies on the day than him.
> Bradbeer and Chase each carded nine-over 81s while Anders and Curran ended the day with rounds of 83 and 84.
The Field
> Charleston Southern and Augustana are tied for the lead with a one-over 577. Chattanooga is next, 10 strokes back with a 587. Temple is well off the pace in 16-team field pace with a 626.
Quotable
"We just need to shake the rust off. We will be back tomorrow and we will be better tomorrow. I am excited for the challenge." - Temple coach Brian Quinn
