Men's Soccer Kicks Off 2020-21 Season Against USF

TAMPA -- The Temple Men's Soccer team opens the 2020-21 season on Saturday, traveling to Tampa to face the USF Bulls. The 7:00 p.m. match will be broadcast live on ESPN+ from Corbett Soccer Stadium.
SEASON OPENER
>Â Saturday's game will serve as the 2020-2021 season opener for both teams.
> This season, initially slated to begin in August 2020, has been delayed by several months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
THE OWL POST
>Â Temple returns many key performers from a strong 2019 squad, including senior Pierre Cayet, the AAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and sophomore Sean Karani who earned preseason All-Conference at forward. Eight other players that started five or more matches will also be returning this season.
>Â Temple also adds four transfers from three different levels of college athletics. Mike Eijgendaal is coming on from Midland University of the NAIA. Nikolas Hartmann also spent last season in the NAIA at Louisiana State University at Shreveport. Fabian Grant is joining the team from Daytona State College of the NJCAA. Finally, Brady O'Connor joins the squad, hailing from George Washington University in the Atlantic-10.
> Temple tied for fourth in the AAC preseason poll, as voted on by the league coaches.Â
>Â The squad is led by head coach, Brain Rowland, who is in his third season guiding Temple men's soccer.
SCOUTING USF
> 2020 saw USF make the NCAA tournament for the first since 2016.
>Â The Bulls ended the season 11-7-1 and had three players make the All-Conference team, including two first-team selections.
> Last season the Bulls fielded the third-best defense in the American, this season they
return preseason All-Conference defender Avionne Flanagan. They will also be returning
2019 conference All-Rookie team member Salvatore Mazzaferro on the backline.
