Women’s Basketball Plays Host to Houston Wednesday Afternoon

PHILADELPHIA — The Temple women's basketball team returns to McGonigle Hall for the first time in two-and-a-half weeks as they look to split the season series with Houston on Wednesday, Feb. 10. The 3:30 p.m. contest will be aired on ESPN+.

THE OWLS
> Temple returns to Philadelphia with a record of 7-7 (7-4 AAC). The Owls are currently ranked fifth in the American Athletic Conference. 
> Senior Mia Davis leads the Owls with 18.5 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. 
> Last week, Davis was named a Top 10 Finalist for the Cheryl Miller Award on Wednesday afternoon, as announced by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. This marks the second-straight season Davis has been named a top 10 contender for the prestigious award. 
> Rookie Jasha Clinton, this week's American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week, is Temple's second-leading scorer with 13.3 points per game. The guard adds 3.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.7 steals per game for the Owls. Clinton leads Temple in three-pointers (22) and steals (25).
> Junior Alexa Williamson is the third Owl averaging double-digit points this season with 10.9 per game. The Houston, Pa. native boasts a team-best field goal percentage of 47% and adds 6.6 rebounds per game for Temple. 
> Sophomore Asonah Alexander leads Temple with 5.4 assists per outing. The 5-10 guard is also the Owls' second-leading rebounder, pulling down 6.7 boards per night. 

OWLS' LAST TIME OUT: Temple 65, Wichita State 57
> The Owls used a strong first half to hold a comfortable 34-23 lead at the break. 
> Wichita State came out and outplayed Temple in the second half, scoring 34 points to the Owls' 31. However, it wouldn't be enough to knock off Temple as the Owls completed the series sweep over the Shockers. 
> Temple outrebounded Wichita State, 40-30, 10 of which were offensive boards. 
> The Owls finished the game shooting 40% from the floor while the Shockers ended with a field goal percentage of 42.9.
> Davis and Alexander led the Owls with 17 points apiece. Davis added seven boards while Alexander chipped in six. 
> Clinton added 16 points for Temple along with five assists, two rebounds and a steal. 
> Emani Mayo also had a solid performance with nine points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals. 
> Williamson rounded out the box score with her seven rebounds. 

SCOUTING HOUSTON
> The Cougars arrive on North Broad Street ranking fourth in the American Athletic Conference with their record of 10-5 (7-4 AAC).
> Houston leads the AAC in three-pointers made with 105. The Cougars average 7.0 threes per game. 
> Britney Onyeje is the Cougars' leading scorer with 10.8 points per contest. Onyeje leads Houston and the AAC in three-pointers made (31). 
> Leading the Cougars on the boards is Tatyana Hill with 5.3 per outing. Hill adds 6.3 points each game. 
> Houston's second leading scorer is Miya Crump, who averages 9.1 points per game. 
> Dymond Gladney leads the Cougars in both assists (44) and steals (28), while adding 8.5 points each night. 

COUGARS' LAST TIME OUT: Houston 64, Tulsa 56
> Houston topped Tulsa 64-56 on Feb. 3 on the road for their second-straight win. 
> The Cougars pulled down 50 rebounds in the win as Crump, Onyeje and Jazmaine Lewis each collected nine boards each. 
> Laila Blair led Houston in scoring with 16 followed by Lewis with 12, Crump with 11 and Onyeje with 10. 
> The Cougars shot 37.9% from the floor as 26 of their points came in the paint. 
> Despite knocking down six threes, Houston shot just 26.1% from beyond the arc. 

TEMPLE VS. HOUSTON
> Temple leads the all-time series against the Cougars, 11-3. 
> Prior to Houston's win over the Owls this season, the other two wins for the Cougars came in back-to-back meetings on Jan. 16, 2018 (99-75) in Philadelphia and Jan. 12, 2019 (78-65) in Houston.

LAST TIME THEY MET: Houston 80, Temple 46
> The Owls dropped an 80-46 contest to Houston at the Ferttita Center on Jan. 20. 
> Temple committed 30 turnovers, the most turnovers they have had since the 2017-18 season when they totaled 35 turnovers against Hampton. 
> Houston collected 31 offensive rebounds, which they turned into 26 second-chance points. 
> The Cougars held the rebounding advantage, 61-36.
> Houston finished the game shooting 37% (30-81) from the floor, while Temple collected a field goal percentage of 31.6 (18-57). 
> Clinton led Temple with 14 points and a career-best six steals. 
> Williamson finished just shy of a double-double with nine points and a career-best 13 rebounds. The forward added three blocks to her stat line. 
> The Owls ended the game with a season-high 14 steals.
