Gymnastics Improves Program Road Record to Close Regular Season

TOWSON, MD. — The Temple gymnastics team ended the 2021 regular season in fantastic fashion, as the Owls set a new program road record by going 196.025 on Sunday afternoon at Towson's tri-meet. UNH slightly edged Temple with a 196.100, while the Owls topped Towson's 195.850.

Meet Notes
> Temple's 196.025 was just the second 196 in program history, and was only .025 off the program record.
> The Owls' topped their previous best road mark of 195.925 set just Friday at Towson.
> Temple had three events go 49+ for the first time this season and just the second time in program history.
> Two of Temple's four-event scores tonight landed in the top-five scores in program history, as the beam score of 49.150 ranks third and the vault score of 49.075 is fourth.

Individual Highlights
> Temple had four podium finishes on the day in a very competitive meet with all three teams still in the hunt for NCAA Regionals.
> Senior Delaney Garin grabbed a share of the beam title, with a career-high tying 9.900 in the anchor position.
> Junior Ariana Castrence took the All-Around crown, scoring a 39.100.
> Junior Julianna Roland and sophomore Madison Brooks each tallied second place finishes, Roland on floor (9.900) and Brooks on vault (9.850)

Floor
> Temple went 49.225 to open up the meet with another solid floor rotation.
> Roland led the way with a 9.900, breaking her career high, while placing her second overall.
> Leary finished with a 9.875, while Castrence and Schugman each tallied 9.825's.
> Senior Tori Edwards tallied a 9.800 to lead off, while freshman Brooke Donabedian went 9.775.

Vault
> Temple recorded its second-straight meet going 49+ on vault, as the Owls went 49.075.
> Edwards, sophomore Madison Brooks, and Roland each had 9.825's.
> Schugman tallied a 9.800, while Castrence (9.775) and sophomore Taylor Newland (9.700) wrapped up the event scores.

Bars
> Temple put together a 48.575 on bars, hitting all six routines.
> Edwards led the way with a 9.750, while Castrence and junior Nichole Smith each hit with 9.725's.
> Brooks (9.700) and freshman Cyrena Whalen (9.675) rounded out the scores.

Beam
> It was a 49.150 to close the day for Temple on beam, as the Owls finished with a 196.025, the best score of the season.
> Garin led the way with the second 9.900 of her career, and just the eighth score of 9.900 or better on beam ever for the Owls.
> Roland had another great routine going 9.875, tying her career best.
> Schugman finished with a 9.850, while Castrence ended her All-Around program with a 9.775.
> Rounding out the beam scores, Donabedian scored a 9.750 and while Oster tallied a 9.700.

> Temple is back in action on Saturday at the EAGL Championships at Pittsburgh. Full seeding will be released on Monday.
