PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple gymnastics team is set for its first ever Eastern Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championship. The Owls will travel to the University of Pittsburgh on Saturday to compete in the evening session of the meet, which begins at 7:00 p.m. Joining the Owls on the floor will be #2 Towson, #6 Pittsburgh, and #8 LIU. #1 NC State, #3 UNH, #5 UNC, and #7 George Washington will compete earlier in the day, with scores from both sessions being combined and ranked to determine final placements.

Temple finished its first season in the EAGL ranked an impressive fourth out of eight teams, and Owls have climbed to 39th in the nation in the latest NQS rankings. Temple will look to improve its already program-record NQS of 195.613, as the team remains in the hunt for one of 36 team berths in the NCAA Regional Championships.

Four times this season the Owls have hit scores that rank in the top-10 in program history, closing the regular season with three-straight scores of 195.400 or better. Temple's final regular season meet was its best, as the squad broke the program road record, compiling a 196.025 on the road in a tri-meet at Towson.

Temple ranks second in the EAGL on vault with an NQS of 49.006. The Owls hit their season best score of 49.075 in back-to-back meets, closing out the regular season at Towson on Friday and Sunday. The Owls have gone 48.900 or better in five of the team's 11 meets this season.

Individually, the team is led by junior Ariana Castrence who ranks fifth in the conference with an NQS of 9.850. Castrence competes a Yurchenko full, but has a Yurchenko double (10.0 SV) in her arsenal, which she competed on Friday at Towson. Junior Madison Brooks has come on strong late in the season with an NQS of 9.800, while freshman Renee Schugman (9.794 NQS) also brings consistency to the lineup.

Though bars was Temple's lowest scoring event of the season, the team still ranks fifth in the conference with an NQS of 48.806. The Owls hit their season high of 49.025 just last weekend, which tied for the fifth best score in program history.

Temple is led by a pair of All-EAGL second team selections on the event, in Castrence and freshman Cyrena Whalen. Both carry a 9.838 NQS into this weekend's meet, with Castrence topping the team with a 9.875 high on the event this season, while Whalen has gone as high as 9.850. Temple has gone 49+ on floor in seven of 11 meets in 2021, including six-straight to close the regular season. 49.300 stands as the season-high, which the Owls achieved at home against UNC, tying the program best score.

Senior Faith Leary anchors the impressive floor lineup with a 9.881 NQS, which ranks third in the conference.
