Volleyball's Davenport Named Defensive Player of the Week; Lindgren on Honor Roll

PHILADELPHIA -- Temple volleyball players Taylor Davenport and Tyler Lindgren represented the Owls on the American Athletic Conference Weekly Awards list on Monday, after a weekend where the team swept defending AAC Regular Season Champion Cincinnati. Davenport was named the AAC Defensive Player of the Week and Lindgren to the Honor Roll.Â
Davenport defended the net in two high-pressure wins for the Owls, as Temple took both matches against Cincinnati to earn the final AAC Tournament spot. The freshman middle racked up 18 blocks between two matches, a big reason Temple held the Bearcats to just a .167 combined attack. On Friday night, Davenport had six kills with a career-best nine blocks, adding three digs. On Sunday, she hit or tied career bests with 12 kills, nine blocks, and five digs. For the week, she averaged 2.00 kills, 2.00 blocks, 3.00 points and .89 digs per set.
Junior Tyler Lindgren distributed a balanced offense as Temple swept the season series against Cincinnati to finish as the #2 seed in the East. The captain racked up 97 total assists between two matches, adding 10 digs and four blocks with a pair of kills. On Friday, Lindgren had 43 assists, five digs, and two kills as the Owls won 3-1 over Cincinnati. On Saturday, she dished out 54 assists with five digs. For the week, she averaged 10.78 assists, 1.11 digs, and 0.44 blocks per set, as the Owls hit .227 as a team.
Temple is back in action in the American Tournament Semifinals, playing Houston on Friday night.
