Gymnastics Hosts Two-Meet Weekend; Owls Compete Friday and Sunday

PHILADELPHIA -- With just four meets remaining before the EAGL Championships at Pitt, the Temple gymnastics team is set for a two-meet weekend, hosting three opponents at McGonigle Hall. First up, the Owls will celebrate Alumni Night on Friday at 7 p.m. facing George Washington and Towson. Temple will return to the floor just two days later for Senior Night on Sunday at 4:00pm against Long Island University. Both meets will be covered by ESPN+

OWL ABOUT TEMPLE
After week eight of competition and the first week of the NQS (National Qualifying Score), the Owls sit at #39 in the national rankings with an NQS of 194.825. Temple has made a notable improvement from last season's initial NQS ranking in which they had a 193.845 to rank 47th. Temple's strong rankings come with a Top-25 ranking on floor, as the Owls have an NQS of 49.169, which puts them 23rd in the nation and first in the EAGL.

Four Owls are ranked in the top-10 in the EAGL, led by junior Julianna Roland who is sixth on vault (9.831) and tied for sixth on floor (9.850). Senior Faith Leary is second in the EAGL floor rankings with a 9.875, while freshman Brooke Donabedian is tied for sixth (9.850). Junior Ariana Castrence is seventh on the EAGL vault rankings with a 9.825, while the vault team is third with a 48.683.

LAST TIME ON THE FLOOR: L, 194.825 to NC State (196.200) and UNC 195.000
Temple scored a 194.825 in a tri-meet at NC State on Saturday night. The Owls took third against top-30 and EAGL competition, as #25 NC State won the meet with a 196.200, followed by #27 UNC with a 195.000.

Temple hit all four events, recording scores of 48.550 on bars, beam, and vault, and tallying a 49.175 on floor. Temple's floor score was the highest score for any team on any event at the meet. Three Owls recorded podium finishes, led by senior Faith Leary and junior Ariana Castrence, who tied for the floor title, while freshman Cyrena Whalen took third on bars, the first podium finish of her career.

SCOUTING GEORGE WASHINGTON
George Washington competed for just the second time last Friday night, scoring 193.600 and finishing third in quad-meet against NC State, Oklahoma and William & Mary. The Colonials have an average score of 193.275 this season. A year ago they finished 36th in the final rankings with an NQS of 195.420.

Freshman Kendall Whitman leads the Colonials this year, setting the school's program record on floor with a 9.950 in the first meet of her career. She is also tied for the team's top vault score with a 9.875. Junior Deja Chambliss is also having a strong season, leading the team with a 9.800 on bars and tied for the lead with a 9.875 on vault.

SCOUTING TOWSON
Towson has climbed to #31 in the national rankings with an NQS of 195.488, which also ranks second in the EAGL.  The Tigers excel on vault, where the team is first in the EAGL and 27th in the nation with a 48.988. Towson is also second in the conference in bars (48.950) and beam (48.931). Last time out, the Tigers took first place in a quad-meet against LIU, New Hampshire and Pittsburgh with a score of 195.175, capturing 10 podium finishes.

Individually, Lauren Bolen is ranked second in the EAGL All-Around standings (39.025), whle also ranking fourth on vault (9.844). Camille Vitoff is second in the conference on vault (9.856) while Emerson Hurst is second on beam (9.869).

SCOUTING LONG ISLAND
LIU is in its first season of competition, both as an NCAA program and in the EAGL. With a team of 16 freshman and three sophomores, the Sharks have a season average of 189.856 to rank 50th in NQS. Last time on the floor, the Sharks tallied their season high score of 191.925 at home.
Freshman Mara Titarsolej broke her own personal and program record on bars, earning a 9.925 while also recording a 9.800 on floor. Freshman Alisson Lapp recorded a score of 9.825 on bars.

SENIOR SALUTE
Temple's Class of 2021 features four gymnasts that have been mainstays in the Owls' lineups during the last three seasons. Tori Edwards, Delaney Garin, Faith Leary, and Jordyn Oster have combined for 15 All-Conference selections and have led the Owls to back-to-back conference titles, the first two in program history. Temple will honor their four seniors after the meet on Sunday, and will also honor two senior student assistant coaches, Erica Fuchs and Monica Servidio.
