Women’s Basketball Faces #4 Tulane in AAC Quarterfinals

PHILADELPHIA — The fifth-seeded Temple women's basketball team takes on #4 Tulane in the quarterfinals of the 2021 American Athletic Conference Championships on Tuesday, Mar. 9 at 12 p.m. ET at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. The game will be aired on ESPN+. 

THE OWLS
> Temple enters the conference tournament as the fifth seed with a record of 11-10 (11-7 AAC). 
> Senior Mia Davis leads the Owls with 18.6 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. 
> Davis was named First Team All-Conference for the third-straight season. She is the only Owl to earn the honor three times in their career. 
> Rookie Jasha Clinton is Temple's second-leading scorer with 14.0 points per game. The guard adds 3.9 assists,3.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game for the Owls. Clinton earned a spot on the AAC All-Freshman team. 
> Junior Alexa Williamson is the third Owl averaging double-digits this season with 12.3 per game. The Houston, Pa. native adds 6.5 rebounds per game for Temple. Williamson leads the Owls with 1.3 blocks per game. 
> Sophomore Asonah Alexander leads Temple with 4.9 assists per outing. The 5-10 guard is the third-leading rebounder for the Owls, pulling down 5.5 boards per night. 

OWLS' LAST TIME OUT: Temple 66, Memphis 52
> Temple won their second-straight game over Memphis on Mar. 4 at McGonigle Hall.
> The Owls recorded a season-best 19 steals in the win, while tying their season-low of 10 turnovers. 
> Temple shot 36.4% from the floor and 71.4% from the foul line. The Owls' three-point shooting suffered as they went 3-for-14 from long range. 
> Memphis committed 25 turnovers, the most of any of Temple's opponents this season. 
> Williamson finished just shy of a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds as she tied her career-high four steals. 
> Davis was the third Owl to score in double figures with 16 points. The forward added eight rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal to her stat line. 
> E. Mayo chipped in six points and six rebounds for Temple. 
> Alexander collected a career-high five steals and dished out five assists to round out the box score. 

SCOUTING TULANE
> Tulane arrives in Texas as the fourth-seed with their mark of 16-7 (12-6 AAC). 
> The Green Wave is led by the 2021 AAC Freshman of the Year JerKaila Jordan. Jordan averages 16.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game. The rookie was a unanimous selection for both Freshman of the Year and All-Freshman team, while also earning a spot on First Team All-AAC. 
> Third Team All-Conference honoree Krystal Freeman is the second-leading scorer for Tulane with 12.4 points per game. The forward leads the Green Wave on the boards with 7.9 rebounds per outing. 
> Tulane leads the conference in both scoring offense (69.1) and field goal percentage (43.1). 

GREEN WAVE'S LAST TIME OUT: Tulane 77, ECU 60
> Tulane won their second-straight game on Mar. 2 at home against ECU. 
> JerKaila Jordan scored a game-high 20 points and chipped in four rebounds, three steals, an assist and a block. 
> Arsula Clark was the second-leading scorer for Tulane with 13 points. Clark added six rebounds, three assists and three steals to her stat line. 
> Krystal Freeman rounded out the box score for the Green Wave with her double double of 11 points and 13 rebounds. 
> Tulane shot 54.3% from the floor and 46.7% from long range while holding ECU to a field goal percentage of 31.1 and a three-point percentage of 18.5. 
> The Green Wave held a 44-32 edge in the rebounding column. 
> Despite the win, Tulane committed a season-high 27 turnovers, which allowed ECU to score 35 points off the Green Wave's mistakes. 

TEMPLE VS. TULANE
> The all-time series between Temple and Tulane is tied, 6-6.
> The two program's met for the first time in head coach of the Owls Tonya Cardoza's first season. Temple topped Tulane 75-71 in overtime in New Orleans on Dec. 28, 2008.
> Tulane is currently on a five-game winning streak against the Owls, dating back to Feb. 7, 2018. 
> Temple's last win over the Green Wave came on Feb. 5, 2017 in New Orleans. 
> Tulane swept the Owls during the 2020-21 regular season with back-to-back wins on Jan. 30 and 31. 

LAST TIME THEY MET: Tulane 71, Temple 69
> Temple fell in their second-straight game to Tulane on Jan. 31 in New Orleans. 
> The Owls finished the game with a field goal percentage of 48.1% (25-52) while Tulane shot 41.2% (21-51). 
> Temple was held to just eight points in the second quarter as the Green Wave recorded 16 points. 
> Tulane's big third quarter proved to be the difference as the Green Wave outscored the Owls 28-19. 
> The Green Wave shot 47.4% from long range, while the Cherry and White were only able to register a 28.6 three-point shooting percentage. 
> Tulane capitalized on Temple's 16 turnovers as they finished the game with 19 points-off-turnovers. 
> Davis led the Owls with 22 points while adding five rebounds, three steals and two assists. 
> Alexander led Temple in both rebounding and assists with nine and seven, respectively. 
> Clinton added 17 points for the Cherry and White and handed out five helpers. 
> Williamson registered 15 points and seven rebounds while E. Mayo rounded out the box score with 10 points, four rebounds and three assists.
