Lacrosse Hosts ECU for Final Homestand of 2021 Season

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple lacrosse team (8-3, 4-2 AAC) returns home after sweeping conference foe Cincinnati (4-8, 0-6 AAC) in a pair of road matches this past weekend. The first game of the series will begin on Friday at 4p.m., with the second game at 11a.m. on Sunday. Both games will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

SCOUTING TEMPLE
> The Owls are currently on a four-game win streak, after sweeping their road series against the Cincinnati Bearcats.
> Bridget Whitaker leads the team with 27 goals, after scoring eight in the two previous games against Cincinnati. She is currently fifth in the AAC in goals per game, averaging 2.45 in 11 games.
> Fifth-year attacker Meghan Hoffman is the facilitator for the Temple offense with 27 assists on the season, ranking second-best in the AAC. She is tied for seventh-most assists in a single season in Temple history.
> The Temple defense has wreaked havoc all season, leading the AAC in caused turnovers (123) and caused turnovers per game (11.18). Courtney Taylor leads the Owls and the AAC in this category, with 25. She is 11th in the nation in caused turnovers per game (2.27) and third in ground balls per game (4.09)
 
LAST TIME OUT: TEMPLE 16 @ CINCINNATI 14, & TEMPLE 10 @ CINCINNATI 8
> Temple defeated Cincinnati in their two matches last weekend, 16-14 on Friday and 10-8 on Sunday.
> Despite being down by five goals at a point in the first half on Friday, the Owls roared back in the second half, outscoring the Bearcats 11-6. Whitaker led the way with five goals and three assists.
> In the second match, Temple jumped out to a 6-1 lead at halftime. Cincinnati found their footing in the second half, outscoring the Owls 7-4, however, the effort was not enough. The final score was 10-8 in favor of Temple.
 
SCOUTING EAST CAROLINA
> ECU is 3-9 on the season and 1-5 in conference play. The Pirates are coming off a series sweep by No. 10 Florida.
> Megan Pallozzi, a senior attacker, leads ECU with 28 goals, with 15 of them coming from the free position. Pallozzi is 21st in the NCAA in free position percentage (.667).
> The Pirates are also led by Nicole LeGar, with 49 draw controls, and Liz Blumthal, who has caused 13 turnovers on the season. 
> Senior goalkeeper Christina White is sold between the pipes, recording 109 of the team's 112 saves to rank 10th in the nation.
> Head Coach Amanda Moore has been at the helm since 2016 when the program was first created. Previously, Moore served as the defensive coordinator at Duke University for two seasons. The Pirates are 15-39 during her tenure and are continually building their program.

SERIES HISTORY
> Temple and ECU have shared a conference since 2019 when the American began sponsoring lacrosse.
> The teams have faced off twice, once in each of the last two seasons, with the Owls winning both matches, holding a 2-0 series advantage.
> In 2019, Temple trounced the Pirates 18-5 on Senior Day, to clinch an AAC Tournament berth.
