Golf Finishes Third at Connecticut Cup

4.3.21 | Men's Golf

ELLINGTON, Conn. – Despite struggling on the back nine, Temple Golf was able to move up one spot to finish third among the 12-team field at the Connecticut Cup Saturday.  The Owls were just one-over at the turn but went 12-over on the back nine were nine-over on their final three holes.

Recapping the Day
> Sophomore Graham Chase, who recorded his first par round of the season Friday, led the Owls and tied for ninth overall with a seven-over 223.  Chase was two-under for his final round after 10 holes but was plagued by four bogeys over the final eight holes with three straight to end his round with a 74.
> Junior Conor McGrath had the best round of the day, a one-over 73 but could have been even better as a double-bogey on the final hole cost him from finishing one-under.  He tied for 13th overall with an eight-over 224.
> Senior Dawson Anders was third overall for Temple with a 12-over 228 to tie for 25th.  However, he failed to factor in today's scoring as he carded a seven-over 79.
> Senior Peter Bradbeer and junior Buddy Hansen completed the Owls' scorers with five-over 77s.  Bradbeer, who had a double bogey on the final hole, tied for 29th with a 13-over 229 while Hansen, who was four-over on the back nine, tied for 64th with a 241.
> Sophomore Andrew Curran, playing as an individual, had his best round of the tournament, a four-over 76 to finish 67th overall (242).

The Field
> Boston College ran away from the field, shooting an 11-over 875.
> Host UConn was second (896) while Temple (902) edged Drexel (903) by one stroke for third.
>BC's Patrick Kewalramani took medalist honors with a two-over 218.

Statistically Speaking
> Temple finished with the most birdies (36) in the field, one more than Iona and BC.
> McGrath was second among the 78-player field with 14 birdies.
> Anders tied for sixth best average on par 4 holes (4.13)

Quotable
"The team is disappointed with how we played," said Temple Coach Brian Quinn. "We have a lot of work to do. We need to get mentally strong and we must work extremely hard on our short game to prevent the sloppy bogeys. If we do those things, we will have a good closeout to the season."
