Crew Heavyweights and Lightweights Split Up This Weekend
4.8.21 | Men's Crew
PHILADELPHIA – The Temple men's crew team splits up this weekend as the heavyweights and lightweights race on opposite coasts. The heavyweights travel out to San Diego to race against the University of San Diego and the University of California San Diego. The last time the Owls raced out on the west coast was for the San Diego Crew Classic in 2018, when Temple was able to grab a pair of gold medals.
"We are really looking forward to testing ourselves against some SoCal teams on their home water," head coach Brian Perkins said. "This will be a welcome break from training in the city and we will make the most of it!"
For the lightweights, the Owls remain home on the Schuylkill River for races against a tough opponent in Navy. Lightweight coach Sean McKenna says that his boats are up for the challenge.
"Admittedly, Navy's reputation for water prowess probably exceeds ours. That said we improved more than a few things from last week and are ready to race. Grateful to the U.S. Naval Academy for making the trip north."
Both the heavyweights and the lightweights hit the water on Saturday. For the heavyweights, the varsity race starts at 9:30 a.m. EST while the second varsity eight get started directly after at 9:45 a.m. EST. For the lightweights, the varsity lightweight eight races at 11:15 a.m. with the second lightweight eight after at 11:45 a.m.
All races held will be finals.
Live racing results will be tweeted from @Temple_MCrew as well as the @temple.crew Instagram story.
