Track & Field Set for 2021 AAC Outdoor Championship

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple track and field team will compete in their first championship meet since February 2020 as they head to Tampa, Fla. for the 2021 American Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship. 
 
About the AAC Championship
> The 2021 American Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship is hosted by the University of South Florida and will take place at the USF Track and Field Stadium starting Friday, May 14 and running through Sunday, May 16.
> The meet will mark the first AAC Outdoor Championship since May of 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic canceling the 2020 season. 
> Temple arrives in Tampa ranked sixth in the Mid-Atlantic region. The Owls face tough competition in Houston and Cincinnati, who both rank fifth in their respective regions. 
> Alanna Lally will look to win gold in the 800m as her current school-record time of 2:04.62 leads the AAC by almost three seconds. 
> Grace Moore will fight for a top spot in the 1500m. Her personal-best mark of 4:19.28 is three seconds behind both the AAC leader and Temple's program record in the event. 
> Moore is also a top contender in the 5000m with her Temple record-setting time of 15:47.98, leading the conference by a whopping 30 seconds. 
> Another Owl to watch is Michelle Joyce, who's 10,000m program-record time of 35:09.98 currently sits at third in the AAC. 
> Emma Gee has her sights set on a medal in the 3000m steeplechase. The graduate student's school-record time of 10:11.48 in the event ranks second in the conference. 
> Aisha Brown will look to earn All-Conference honors in the high jump for the third time in her career. The senior's personal-best mark of 1.82m earned her second place at the 2018 AAC Outdoor Championship.
 > The championship meet begins Friday at 11 a.m. The first Owl to step on the track will be Sophia Gulotti as the sophomore will compete in the first four events of the heptathlon. 
> The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday at 8:15 p.m. 
> The meet will be aired on ESPN+ and live results can be found at live.halfmiletiming.com.

Last Time Out
> The Owls competed in their last regular season meet on Apr. 29-30 at the UNF Invite in Jacksonville, Fla.
> Lally ran a 2:04.62 in the 800m for fifth place to break her previous school record of 2:05.50 in the event. Lally's mark currently ranks first in the American Athletic Conference, beating the second-best time by three seconds.
> Lea Kerbiriou also ran an impressive 800m as she recorded a personal-best 2:08.65 for seventh place. 
> The 4x400m relay crew of Lally, Mary Olayinka Ilelaboye, Helene Gottlieb and Marissa White finished ninth in the event with a time of 3:44.07 for Temple's fastest 4x400m mark of the season. 
> Chelby Elam also saw success in Jacksonville as she ran personal bests in both the 100m (12.06) and 200m (24.69).
