Joyce Sets School Record on Day One of AAC Championship

TAMPA, Fla. – Senior Michelle Joyce broke her own school record in the 10,000m Friday evening as the Temple track and field team closed out the first day of competition at the 2021 American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championship.
Day One Highlights
> In the final event of the evening, Joyce crossed the finish line at 34:47.69 in the 10,000m to beat her personal-best and former school record by 22 seconds. Her record-setting performance earned her second place in the event.
> Sophomore Sophia Gulotti started the day for the Owls with the first four events of the heptathlon. Gulotti ended the day with 2690 points to sit at 16th in the event.
> Gulotti registered personal-bests in the 100m hurdles (15.12), shot put (9.16m) and the 200m (26.21) while finishing .01m shy of tying her personal best in the high jump with her mark of 1.49m.
> In the 1500m trials, both Grace Moore and Helene Gottlieb ran qualifying times for Sunday's final. Moore finished first in her heat with a time of 4:29.38 while Gottlieb finished third in her heat at 4:27.86.
> Marissa White, Chidumga Nkulume and Mary Olayinka Ilelaboye all ran personal bests in the 200m trials with respective times of 24.42, 24.73 and 25.10. However, their times fell outside the top eight that will be moving on to Sunday's final.

> Gulotti will open up day two of action in Tampa with the final three events of the heptathlon. She will start in the long jump at 11 a.m. followed by the javelin and the 800m.
> Tannekee Stachan will compete in her first event of the meet at 3 p.m. with the long jump.
> The 800m trials are set to begin at 6 p.m. followed by the 400m trials, the 100m trials and the 3000m steeplechase.
