Rachel Page Named Gymnastics Assistant Coach

6.15.21 | Women's Gymnastics

PHILADELPHIA -- After serving as interim assistant coach for the record-setting 2021 Temple Gymnastics season, Rachel Page has been hired as the Owls' top assistant, as announced by head coach, Josh Nilson.

"Rachel came to Temple last fall in a volunteer capacity and quickly became indispensable," said Nilson. "With 25 years of coaching experience she is a phenomenal technician that is well connected nationally. She embodies every characteristic that we value within the program. When I took the head coach position here I told myself that we can win and win the right way - but that we need to keep first things first! Rachel buys in to this philosophy completely. I'm excited to have her help me continue to build within that framework."

In 2021, Page's contributions helped lead the Owls to a historic season, breaking records in nearly every category. Temple's primary floor and vault coach, she led the Owls to record-setting NQS numbers on both events. The Cherry & White finished the regular season ranked #22 in the nation with a floor NQS of 49.300, while the vault NQS was 49.019, which ranked 32nd. For her efforts, Page earned WCGA Northeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year honors.

"I'm thrilled to back at Temple to continue what we built last season," said Page. "It's an exciting opportunity to continue pouring my energy and passion into these student-athletes and this program."

Competing as a member of the EAGL for the first time in program history, Temple's 2021 team made the most of its debut, capturing the 2021 EAGL Championship in an upset. The Owls recorded a huge 196.500 at the championship meet, shattering the previous best program record of 196.050.

The Owls finished the regular season ranked 30th overall in the NCAA with a program record NQS of 195.963. Temple earned a team spot at the NCAA Championships for the first time since 1992. Though the team had to withdraw due to Covid-19 protocols, the bid was the first ever for Temple since bids were decided by national rank.

In team competition, Temple put up eight scores in the top-25 in program history, including three in the top-five on the Owls' all-time list. At the EAGL Championships, the Cherry & White were on fire. In addition to the program record team score of 196.500, the team set a new Temple floor record of 49.375 and tied the program's all-time beam record of 49.225.

Prior to Temple, Page most recently coached at Gymnastix Academy in Buford, Georgia.

A former level 10 and elite gymnast, Page has been a JO coach for over 25 years. In her tenure, she's produced countless regional and national qualifers and champions. She also played a significant role in the recruiting process for her athletes to obtain college scholarships and other opportunities.

Page was also a performer for the famed Cirque du Soleil.
