2020-21 Temple Fencing Awards: Sabre MVP

6/16/2021

The 2020-21 Sabre MVP goes to Eva Hinds!

The 2020-21 Fencing Team’s Most Valuable Fencer for the sabre squad was squad leader, Eva Hinds. Eva is a graduating senior from Oregon City, Ore. and a force to be reckoned with on the strip. Eva’s career record is 125-58. She led a noticeably young squad, consisting of two sophomores and two first-year students. During practices she pushed her squadmates to try new things and was always available for feedback. At competitions she was extremely consistent, always showing her desire to win. Some highlights from the year include having 2-1 records against Northwestern, Duke, Penn State, and National Champion Notre Dame. With Eva’s success this year, she qualified to compete at the NCAA Championships. She finished the Championships coming in 8th and earned All-American Second Team honors. She will be graduating with a major in Classics and a minor in Art History.

Seeing Eva grow into a squad leader this year has been incredible to experience. She has always been supportive of her teammates, but she really stepped up and grew into a leader that her squad respected and listened to this year. Her squad always knew they could rely on her during practice and competitions.
