EUGENE, Ore. – Temple men's cross country alumni Travis Mahoney '12 will compete in the 3000m steeplechase final at the U.S. Olympic Trials tonight, June 25, at Hayward Field.

Mahoney raced in the first round of the steeplechase on Monday, June 21, where he finished both fifth in his heat and overall with a personal-best time of 8:24.05. His finish earned him an automatic spot in tonight's steeplechase final at 7:42 p.m. EST. To qualify for the Olympics, Mahoney has to finish amongst the top three and record a time of 8:22.00 or better. The race will be broadcast on NBCSN.

Mahoney was a 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials Finalist in the 3000m steeplechase, but unfortunately did not qualify for the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics.

At Temple, Mahoney was an NCAA All-American with his 37th-place finish at the 2012 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships in Louisville, Ky. Mahoney also earned two All-American nods with the Temple men's track and field team during his time in North Philly.
