Women’s Soccer Hosts Penn in Home Opener This Friday

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's soccer will host Penn in the 2021 home opener on Friday, Aug. 27 at 4 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ from the Temple Sports Complex in Philadelphia, Pa.

- Temple enters the match with a record of 0-1 after falling to Maryland 3-0 on Thursday, Aug. 19 in the season opener.
- Temple's second game of the season against Rutgers set for Sunday, Aug. 22 was canceled due to weather conditions.
- Last year, Temple posted a final record of 4-5-1 (2-5-1 AAC) in the condensed season, finishing seventh in the AAC.
- Temple returns leading scorers Lexy Endres (6), Gabriela Johnson (5), Hailey Gutowski (5) and Roisin McGovern (4).
- The match against the Owls will serve as the 2021 season opener for the Quakers.
- Penn did not compete in the 2020-21 season after the Ivy League canceled all competition in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- The Quakers last match came on Nov. 9, 2019, in a 1-0 loss to Princeton.
- Head coach Casey Brown will enter her second year with the Quakers, but only her first season of competition after being hired in March 2020, just months before the pandemic.
- The Quakers finished the 2019 season 8-7-1 (IVY 2-5-0) and return key players Sizzy Lawton, Mia Shenk and Allie Schachter.
- Temple is 5-8-0 all time against the Quakers with the teams last meeting in 2019. The Owls fell to the Quakers 2-1 in a hard-fought match at Rhodes Field.
