Volleyball Welcomes Back Overton

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple volleyball team will have a familiar face on the sidelines this season, as former Owl standout, Kirsten Overton '17, has joined the staff as a graduate manager for operations. Overton heads back to Temple after wrapping up her professional playing career.
"It's great to have a former player back to join the staff, especially one as accomplished as Kirsten," noted head coach Bakeer Ganesharatnam. "She was a tremendous player for us and is back in the states after a professional playing career in Europe. I think she will be a great asset to our program, as she was in their shoes just a few years ago. She will be a good go-between for the players and coaches and we are very excited to bring her back and see her grow as a professional."
A four-year member of the Owls, Overton was a three time American All-Conference selection, including a first team nod in 2015. She racked up 823 career kills and 371 total blocks, while hitting a massive .362 for her career. Additionally, her 318 block assists ranks her second all-time in Temple program history.Â
"Temple is and has always been my home," said Overton. "I'm so thankful for this opportunity to help TUVB from off the court. Being part of the staff is a different beast, however, I think being an alumna will help me ease into the job easier. I look forward to helping the team and coaching staff all mesh as one to reach our goals this season."
Overton played beach volleyball following her graduation from Temple before transitioning back to the indoor game. She signed with Rote Raben Vilsbiburg out of Germany's 2. Bundesliga Süd Frauen League and found success, being named match MVP in her first professional action. The middle blocker also played with GVK out of Gislaved, Sweden, while coaching her own team.
Overton graduated from Temple with a B.S. in Media Studies and Production with a minor in Public Relations. Aside from her professional playing career, her resume includes work as an assistant editor for Diesel Films and an educator for Lululemon.
