9.14.21 | Women's Soccer

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's soccer will open conference play at Memphis this Thursday, Sept. 16 at 8 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ from the Track and Soccer Complex in Memphis, Tenn.

The Owls
  • Temple women's soccer advanced to 1-2-3 (0-0-0 AAC) after posting a 3-0 shutout over city rival, Saint Joseph's last Thursday for their first win of the season.
  • The Owls are led offensively by Emily Kavanaugh, Hailey Gutowski and Lexy Endres. Kavanaugh has recorded four points on the season with two goals, while Gutowski and Endres follow close behind, each tallying three points. Gutowski has recorded one goal and one assist, as Endres has been a consistent helper, dishing out three assists.
  • Kamryn Stablein remains a force in goal for the Cherry and White, entering the week second in the AAC in saves (32) and third in save percentage (.821).
  • Hailey Gutowski picked up her first weekly award of the season, and fourth of her career after being named to AAC Weekly Honor Roll on Monday, Sept. 13. The junior forward netted one goal and added an assist in the 3-0 shutout over Saint Joseph's.
Scouting Memphis
  • After a five-game winning streak, the Tigers fell to 6-1-1 (0-0-0 AAC) after facing a 2-0 loss to Drake on Sunday. Despite outshooting their opponent 29-4, the Tigers remained scoreless, picking up their first loss of the season.
  • Memphis has outscored their opponents 19-4 in eight games, outshooting the competition 162-42 to average 2.38 goals per game.
  • The Tigers are led by 2020-21 United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-American, Tanya Boychuk. Boychuk has recorded eight points on four goals for the Tigers but will not be competing against Temple due to receiving a red card in the previous game against Drake. Aubrey Mister and Sayorla Miller trail close behind, each tallying three goals this season with Mister adding an assist.
  • Last year, the Tigers posted a record of 8-4-0 (6-1-0 AAC), advancing to the AAC semifinals before dropping to third-seeded Cincinnati, 1-0. Despite the loss, Memphis received a bid to the NCAA tournament for the third straight year, but fell to Utah Valley, 1-0 in the first round.
