Women's Cross Country Places Fourth at Iona Meet of Champions

PHILADELPHIA- The Temple women's cross country team finished fourth overall at the 26^th annual Iona Meet of Champions at Van Cortlandt Park Friday morning in the Bronx, N.Y. Senior Michelle Joyce led the Owls with a third-place finish in the 5k with a time of 18:23.9 minutes.

"The ladies really stepped up today. It was great seeing Mia Dubac and Cat Shontz work together throughout the race. Michelle demonstrated that she is ready to go out hard and mix it up with anybody, which is something we are trying to practice as we move into these bigger races," said Coach Cavender Salvadori.

From The Players

"I think today was a good experience to run on a tough course, put ourselves into the race, and see what we could do. We've been getting in a lot of quality training, and it was fun to put on spikes for the first time this season. I'm looking forward to seeing the progress we have throughout the rest of the season," said senior Michelle Joyce.

Race Notes

The Owls had two top-10 finishes with Joyce and Helene Gottlieb. Joyce finished in third place with a time of 18:23.9 minutes and Gottlieb in 10^th place with a time of 18:45.6.
Temple was without freshman runner Lea Keribirou due to nagging injuries.
Johns Hopkins picked up the 1^st place spot with Quinnipiac, Monmouth, and Temple right behind them in a closely raced competition.
