Women’s Cross Country Posts Dominate Performance to Win Temple Invitational

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple women's cross country team started the season strong, taking four of the top five finishes with freshman Lea Kerbiriou leading the pack to win the Temple Invitational Friday evening at historic Belmont Plateau.

"Today we wanted the ladies to compete wherever they ended up in the pack. It was a good test to see where we are right now. Lea and Michelle did a good job at controlling the front and pushing each other. With the course being a difficult one, it really allowed the ladies to get a tough race experience to prepare them for the rest of the season", said head coach James Snyder.

Owls Dominate

Temple dominated the 6k race with Kerbiriou finishing first with a time of 22:19.9.
Senior captain Michelle Joyce was the next Owl to finish, with a third-place time of 22:29.3.
Rounding out the top 5 for Temple was senior Helene Gottlieb and freshman Mia Dubac, who finished with times of 23:09.1 and 23:11.7 to place fourth and fifth, respectively.
A pair of sophomores, Cat Shontz and Laura Nicholson, finished in the top 10 with times of 23:23.6 and 24:28.2, earning them the seventh and tenth place slots.

Race Notes

The course at Belmont Plateau was designed by former Temple cross country/ track and field head coach Jack Saint Clair. It started being used for college competitions in 1963.
Temple scored 20 points to finish in first place with Rider placing second, Jefferson third, and Chestnut Hill fourth.
Two Owls made their collegiate debut in the race, Dubac and Abigail Cole.
