PHILADELPHIA - After going 2-2 at the Penn State Invitational last weekend, the No. 8 Temple fencing team will host the first day of the Philadelphia Invitational. Days two and three will be hosted by Penn on Saturday and Sunday, with the Owls set to also compete on the third day.
At Penn State, Temple topped No. 12 Duke 14-13 in the final bout with a win from graduate student Ashley Cherry and topped Haverford in a dominant 25-2 victory. Both of the Owls' losses were to teams ranked in the top-10, falling to No. 7 Penn State and No. 2 Columbia.
Cherry went an undefeated 7-0 on the day, the squad's best mark of the meet. Naomi Ross posted a 5-3 record, including a 2-0 mark against the Blue Devils. Anastasia Yankovskiy went 5-4 overall, 3-0 against Duke, while Anna Novoseltseva went 4-5 on the day and 2-1 against the Lions. Eva Ventura posted a 4-2 record and Constança Dimas saw a 3-1 mark.
The Cherry and White will host No. 14 UNC, Johns Hopkins, No. 15 NJIT, and No. 3 Princeton, facing all but the Blue Jays. At No. 10 Penn, the Owls will face No. 6 Northwestern, No. 5 Ohio State, Yale, NYU, and the Quakers. Competition on Friday will begin at 3 p.m. at the TU Pavilion, while day three will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the TSE Center.
