1.7.22 | Women's Basketball

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple women's basketball team returns to the court to take on the Cincinnati Bearcats following three consecutive postponed contests over the past two weeks. The game is scheduled to be played on Saturday, Jan. 8 at 2:00pm. The game is set to air on ESPN+.

LAST GAME
> In their last time out, the Owls dropped their third consecutive game at home against the Old Dominion Monarchs.
> The Owls jumped out to a four-point halftime lead, but were unable to hold the advantage as an Old Dominion 12-2 run coming out of the half gave the Monarchs the edge for the rest of the contest.
> Mia Davis: game-high 25 points on 9-15 shooting, six rebounds, three assists
> Aniya Gourdine: 14 points on 6-8 shooting, team-high eight rebounds and five assists
> Alexa Williamson: 11 points

THE OWLS
> The Cherry & White are looking to bounce back after falling in their past three contests, most recently last Wednesday against Old Dominion.
> The Owls have not played a game since Dec. 22 when they fell to Old Dominion at home, 71-68. Three consecutive postponements against La Salle, UCF, and SMU have kept Temple off the court.
> Temple is led by graduate forward Mia Davis. Davis leads the team with 17.2 points per game and 7.6 rebounds per game.
> Last game against Old Dominion, three Owls scored in dougle figures as Davis tied her season-high with 25 points. Gourdine scored 14 points on 6-8 shooting and 2-2 from three-point range.

SCOUTING CINCINNATI
> The Bearcats are coming off a two-game losing streak after dropping contests to Marquette and South Florida. UC had a pair of postponed games in between the two losses.
> Cincinnati is led by junior Akira Levy who leads the team in points (13.8), assists (5.6), and steals (2.6) per game.
> Sophomore Jillian Hayes is the other Bearcat that averages more than 10 points per game. Hayes also leads the team in rebounds and blocks per game.
> In their last game out, the Bearcats opened conference play, dropping their game to the South Florida Bulls, 61-46.

LAST TIME THEY MET
> The last time these two teams met, junior forward Alexa Williamson scored 21 points as the Temple women's basketball team topped Cincinnati 69-53 at Fifth Third Arena on Feb. 3, 2021.
> Temple shot 40% (24-60) from the floor as they scored 40 of their 69 points in the paint.
> The Owls never allowed Cincinnati to take the lead besides the opening two minutes of the game.
> The Bearcats worked towards a comeback in the third quarter when they tied the game 42-42, but Temple answered with two-straight buckets to put themselves back on top.
> Cincinnati held the edge on the boards, pulling down 43 rebounds to the Owls' 38.

UP NEXT
> The Owls return to Philadelphia to take on Penn for a Big 5 battle on Tuesday, Jan. 11 at 7:00pm.
> The game is scheduled to air on ESPN+.
