Men’s Soccer Captures Second-Straight Win, Defeating Stony Brook 2-0

10.18.22 | Men's Soccer

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple men's soccer team (4-7-2, 1-5-0 AAC) handled the Stony Brook Seawolves (4-9-0, 2-5-0, CAA) by a score of 2-0 Tuesday night in Philadelphia. Fabian Grant scored what turned about to be the game-winning 14 seconds into the match. It is fastest goal a Temple men's soccer player has scored since 10/3/2017 against Drexel.

How it Happened
> Temple scored on the first play of the match. After taking the kickoff, forward Chaim Roserie launched the ball downfield into the box where it was chested down by Sean Karani. Karani quickly settled the ball and found a wide-open Fabian Grant. Grant fired the ball from well beyond the top of the box and perfectly shot an unsaveable ball to the top right corner for to take an early lead.
> Stony Brook had a small counter surge, featuring a save from Temple keeper Eoin Gawronski.
> Temple assaulted the goal with three quality chances in less than 80 seconds. Roserie, Karani, and defender Elyad Shojaei all had shots on goal. The Owls also had three corner kicks during this stretch of the match.
> In the 26th minute, the Owls found the back of the net a second time. Karani found Roserie in the midfield who in turn found Sawyer Koza. Koza was one-on-one on the left side of goal, the freshman beat his defender and the keeper to extend the Temple lead to 2-0.
> Temple came out firing in the second half, with Yann Kouemi firing a quality chance that was turned away by the Seawolves' keeper.
> Temple's defense was rock solid for the entire second half. Despite taking six shots, only two found the goal, with Gawronski easily stopping both. Temple took the win 2-0.

Game Notes
> This was the seventh shutout of Gawronski's career in only his 21st game. One third of his career starts have been shutouts.
> Temple's 16 shots are the most since the 16 the Owls' fired last season against Penn.
> Only three total cards were pulled in the match. Two on Stony Brook and one on Temple.
