How it Happened
- The Owls and the Pirates entered the match engaging in back-and-forth play, with each team recording five shots in the first 20 minutes.
- East Carolina was able to convert on their sixth shot of the game, sending a rocket from far outside the box into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.
- The Owls held strong for the remainder of the half, and entered the second half with intensity, converting in the 48th minute. Jillian Allgood pressured ECU keeper, Maeve English, earning a deflection which was found by Emily Kavanaugh. With English out of position, Kavanaugh fired a long ball into the goal for the equalizer.
- The Owls continued their momentum just minutes after, finding a string of shots from Kavanaugh, but it would not prove to be enough to take the lead.
- With time ticking down, the Pirates found themselves with a chance on goal. Goalkeeper Kyla Burns looked to make the sliding block inside the box, but a penalty kick was awarded, which gave the Pirates the 2-1 win.
