Football Hits the Road to Battle Navy

10.24.22 | Football

This Week

The Owls will travel to Annapolis to take on the Navy Midshipmen. Kickoff is set for October 29 at 3:30pm on CBSSN and 97.5 The Fanatic.

Last Week

Temple fell to the Tulsa Golden Hurricane at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, 27-16. Despite the loss, the defense battled. The Owls forced three takeaways including Layton Jordan's second pick-six of the season to open the scoring.

Last Time vs. Navy

Temple lost to the Navy Midshipmen in Philadelphia, 34-14 on Senior Day. The Navy rushing attack was too much for the Owls to overcome, as the Midshipmen put up 219 yards on the ground. DE Layton Jordan forced a fumble, while SAF Amir Tyler and Jalen Ware led the Owls with seven tackles. Fifteen Owls participated in the Senior Day Ceremony and both senior running backs (Bonner and Ruley) scored touchdowns. Senior DT Shane Hogarth recorded his first career start and sack

Last Time at Navy

The Owls lost a tightly-contested affair in the 2020 season opener - played on October 10 when the start of the season was delayed due to a national pandemic - when they faced off against the Midshipmen, falling 31-29. The game was a high-scoring affair with neither team being forced to punt until the second half. The Owls outgained the Midshipmen 407-299 and were 75% on third-down conversions, but a pair of failed two-point conversions in the fourth quarter was the difference in the game.

Trailing 28-17 early in the fourth quarter, Anthony Russo's second rushing touchdown made it a one possession game, but a failed two-point conversion kept the Navy lead at five. On the ensuing Navy drive, the Midshipmen dominated the clock and the time of possession like they had throughout the game, and ended the drive with a 50-yard field goal to extend the lead back to eight. In a game in which Temple never led, the Owls had a chance with just over a minute remaining in the game to force overtime after a one-yard touchdown run from Re'Mahn Davis trimmed the Midshipmen lead to 31-29. However, the deciding moment for the Owls came shortly after when a failed two-point conversion try from Russo to Davis fell short.

Temple-Navy History

The Owls and Midshipmen are tied 8-8 all time. Navy Has won the previous two meetings in 2020 and 2021. The Owls are 5-5 against the Midshipmen in games played in Annapolis.

Up Next

The Owls will return home to Philadelphia to take on the USF Bulls. Kickoff is set for November 5 at 2:00pm on ESPN+ and 97.5 The Fanatic.
