Field Hockey to Close Out Regular Season

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple field hockey team will close out the regular season this weekend, heading Connecticut to face #13 UConn for the BIG EAST finale before hosting Lock Haven on Senior Day.

SCOUTING TEMPLE
> The Owls fell 2-0 to #14 Old Dominion Friday afternoon in its last BIG EAST home game of the season.
> With just one league game left on the schedule, Temple is in contention for the BIG EAST Tournament for the third straight year. The Owls currently sit in fourth place, with the top four teams advancing to the postseason. Temple can clinch a BIG EAST Tournament berth with a win over UConn. A berth may also be earned with a loss if Villanova falls to Georgetown. Temple would be the fourth seed in either scenario.
> The Cherry and White holds an RPI of 28 with two games left in the regular season. Temple was as high as No. 20 in the RPI rankings this season, dropping several spots after losses to Villanova and Penn.
> Temple has outscored its opponents 38-19, three shy of double last season's goals scored (21). The Cherry and White has scored 5+ goals four times this season.
> 13 Owls have scored so far, with McKenna Burkhardt's eight leading the team.
> Molly Frey has been a force in goal, posting 40 of the team's 44 saves. She enters the weekend with a 0.678 save percentage and a 1.14 GAA to rank 11th in the NCAA. Her win-loss percentage (0.688) is 21st.

SCOUTING UCONN
> #13 UConn is 11-4 (5-1 BIG EAST) on the season and will host Temple on a three-game winning streak.
> The Huskies have won their last four conference games, most recently defeating Georgetown 3-0 on the road.
> Julia Bressler leads the team's offensive effort, scoring seven of the team's 33 goals. Simone Sol it the team's main feeder, dishing seven assists on the season.
> Cheyenne Sprecher has seen every minute in the cage for the Huskies, recording 67 assists and allowing 19 goals for a 1.21 GAA.

SERIES HISTORY
> This will be the 20th meeting between UConn and Temple, with the Huskies holding a 15-3-1 advantage.
> The Owls won last season's matchup, topping UConn 3-2 in overtime to snap a losing streak dating back to 1989.
> The win also clinched the Owls' BIG EAST Tournament berth and marked the first time since 2016 Temple defeated a ranked team.

SCOUTING LOCK HAVEN
> Lock Haven is 12-4 (5-1 A-10) entering the weekend, heading to #20 UMass Friday for it's conference finale before coming to North Broad.
> The Bald Eagles lost their last matchup at Bucknell and are 3-2 in their last five games.
> 18 of the team's 33 goals have been scored by Martina Spangenberg and Jazmin Palma, with Spangenburg's 10 leading the team.
> Two goalkeepers have seen time in the cage, and Kelsey Felix's 14 starts have seen her record 53 of the team's 57 saves.

SERIES HISTORY
> Temple and Lock Haven have met eight times, with the Owls holding a 4-3-1 advantage.
> The teams last met in 2012 when the teams were both in the A-10 and the Cherry and White is 3-2 in the last five meetings.
> Temple won the last matchup, topping the Bald Eagles 4-3 in overtime at home.
