Golf Sits in 6th Place After Day One at the Ironwood Collegiate Classic

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Conor McGrath shot a two-under 142 to tie for fifth after the first day of competition at the 2022 Ironwood Collegiate Classic to help the Owls to sixth place in the 12-team field Monday. The two-day, 54-hole event is being hosted at the 7,120-yard, par-72 Ironwood Golf and Country Club.
Recapping the Day
> McGrath was consistent on the day, recording one-under rounds of 71 to lead the Owls. He made a team high seven birdies over his two rounds and is just four shots off the lead.
> Graham Chase was next for the Owls, shooting a four-over 148 to tie for 21st in the 81-man field. Chase had five birdies over his 36 holes.
> Ethan Whitney was one stroke back of Chase and third for the Owls with a five-over 149.
> Joey Morganti shot two rounds of 77, to tie for 51st overall with a 10-over 154 while Andrew Curran rounded out the Owls' scorers with a 12-over 156 to tie for 56th.
> Temple was in second place with a four-over 292, just one stroke behind William and Mary after the morning round. The Owls then turned in a nine-over 297 to fall 11 strokes back of the leader East Carolina.
> Andres Aranguren (162, t-72nd) and Darren Nolan (166, 77th) also competed as individuals for Temple.
The Field
>East Carolina (578) shot a five-under 283 in the afternoon round to take a four-stroke lead over Gardner Webb (582). Delaware (583) is one stroke back in third followed by William & Mary (584), Winthrop (586) and Temple (589).
> Brandon Einstein from NC State, playing as an individual, leads the field with a six-under 138.
> The teams tee-off Tuesday in their final round with a shotgun start at 8 am.
