Golf to Take Part in Phoenix Invitational Starting Monday

Burlington, N.C. – For the second straight week Temple Golf heads to North Carolina this time to compete in the 17-team Phoenix Invitational hosted by Elon University. The tournament will be a two-day, 54-hole event with two rounds on Monday (Oct. 10) followed by 18 holes on Tuesday at the 6,867-yard, par-71 Alamance Country Club.
Previewing the Tournament
> Coming off a second-place finish at the Ironwood Collegiate Classic, Conor McGrath leads the Owls with a 70.63 stroke average. Consistent throughout the first three tournaments, the senior co-captain has played par or under in six of his eight rounds so far. He carded three straight one-under 71s at Ironwood in his last outing.
> Ethan Whitney and Graham Chase join McGrath in providing Temple with a formidable trio that is hovering around par for the season. Whitney, who won his first collegiate tournament three weeks ago (Cornell & Temple Fall Invite), is averaging 71.25 strokes per round while Chase is close behind at 72.25 strokes per round.
> Andrew Curran (74.13), who has played every round this season, will tee off from the four-spot this week while Jake Naese (72.00) will make his second appearance of the season to round out the team.
The Field
> Temple and host Elon, who will field two teams, will be joined by Appalachian State, Colgate, Gardner-Webb, George Washington, La Salle, Lafayette, Longwood, North Carolina A&T, Ohio, Presbyterian, Queens, Radford, Stetson and William & Mary.
> There will be 100 golfers in the field with individuals from the competing teams along with golfers from North Carolina, North Carolina Greensboro and North Carolina State.
