Temple fell to #22 Cincinnati by a score of 23-3. The story of the game was Cincinnati's defense that forced four turnovers while holding the Owls' offense to just three points.
Last Time vs. ECU
The last time Temple played ECU was last season when the Owls lost by a score of 45-3. Two missed field goals in the first half kept the Owls off the scoreboard as the Pirates scored two quick touchdowns to take a 21-0 lead going into the break. From there, the Owls were not able to get back into the game as Temple was outscored 24-3 in the second half.
Last Time Vs. ECU at Home
The last time Temple and East Carolina faced off in Philadelphia was November 21, 2020, falling to ECU by a score of 28-3. Entering the game with a severely depleted roster, the Owls lost five defensive players, including four starters, due to COVID-19 protocol issues just prior to the start of the game. This also delayed the start of the contest by 50 minutes. Despite a roster missing so many key players, the Owls fought valiantly, until two back-breaking plays in the second quarter – a 95-yard kickoff return and a 45-yard touchdown pass in the final minute – giving ECU separation, 21-3, heading into the half. A 75-yard run by ECU QB Holton Ahlers led to the only score after intermission. Four freshmen were among Temple's top five leaders in tackles with SAF M.J. Griffin (11) topping the Owls. The others were LB Kobe Wilson (7), LB Jordan Magee (4) and SAF Alex Odom (4). True freshman walk-on quarterback Kamal Gray received his only career start. Before then, the last time a true freshman started at QB for the Owls was in 2013 (P.J. Walker).

The Owls lead the all-time series over the Pirates, 10-9. Temple has a record of 5-5 in games played at home against ECU. Temple has won six of the last eight match-ups between the two teams.
