Women’s Basketball to Face Old Dominion in Anne Donovan Classic

 PHILADELPHIA – The Temple women's basketball team (2-4, 0-0 AAC) will conclude its longest road stretch of the season as the Owls head south to face Old Dominion Monarchs (3-3, 0-0 Sun Belt). This game is the 3rd Annual Anne Donovan Classic at Old Dominion, celebrating the Basketball Hall of Famer and ODU alumnus.

LAST TIME OUT: Temple 77, @ Bucknell 62
> The Owls rode their best shooting performance in years to a convincing victory over the Bucknell Bison. Temple shot 60% (9-15) from beyond the arc. This was Temple's best shooting percentage from three since 1/19/12 when the Owls hit 6-10 against Xavier.
> The two teams were tied after the first quarter but the Owls won each subsequent period.
> Aleah Nelson tied the single-game high for any Temple Owl this season with 23 to go with five assists and two rebounds.

THE OWLS
> This season has featured an exceptionally challenging schedule thus far. The Owls have faced the 20th hardest schedule in country based on the RPI. This season is the first time Temple has faced two ranked opponents in November since 2010.
> Nelson has been on fire as of late. The point guard earned recognition from the American Athletic Conference and Philadelphia Big 5 Weekly Honor Roll after a week in which she averaged 18.5 points, 5.5 assists, and 2.5 rebounds per contest. Nelson currently leads the American in points per game (16.3) and is second in both assists (5.83) and assists/TO ratio (+2.50).
> Jasha Clinton also had a strong week. The guard scored a season-high 17 against Bucknell alongside four assists and two boards. The Virginia Beach, Va. native is second on the team in both points per game (11.0) and assists per game (3.1).
> Tiarra East places third on the team in points per game (10.3) while leading the charge on the glass with 6.0rpg. East has been Temple's best free throw shooter this season, leading the team (>2 attempts) in free throw percentage (.750).

SCOUTING OLD DOMINION
> Old Dominion had a strong 2021-22 that saw the Monarchs earn a 24-10 record and advance to the WNIT. In the first round of the tournament, the squad met the Towson Tigers led by current TU head coach Diane Richardson. ODU felled the Tigers 72-66 and moved on to the second round where they were defeated by Columbia, 62-59.
> The Monarchs are 3-3 this far in the 2022-23 campaign. Old Dominion kicked off the season with a loss to mid-major power Florida Gulf Coast, before rebounding with back-to-back wins against Texas Southern and William & Mary. ODU suffered consecutive losses to Xavier and Elon, getting back to .500 with a 70-63 win over Coppin State Sunday.
> Senior forward Amari Young is a headliner for Old Dominion. Young has scored in double figures in three of ODU's six games. She is averaging 8.7 points and leads the team with 7.5 rebounds per contest. Young put up the first double-double of the Monarch's season last time out against Coppin State.
> Women's Basketball Hall of Fame Inductee DeLisha Milton-Jones leads the program in her third season. The two time-Olympian is 40-24 during her time at ODU. Prior to her time with the team, she was the head coach at Pepperdine for two seasons. As a player, she earned First Team All-America honors at Florida and was a two-time WNBA All-Star selection.

 SERIES HISTORY
> Temple and ODU met for the first time ever last season at Liacouras Center.
> Old Dominion took the matchup by a score of 71-68. Temple trailed by eight entering the fourth but managed to comeback and tie the game up at 62 with 1:30 left on the clock. The Monarchs scored the next six points to take a lead they would not relinquish.
