Football Dominates USF, 54-28

PHILADELPHIA, Pa., - Temple (3-6, 1-4) dominated USF (1-8, 0-5) by a score of 54-28. The Owls exploded on offense today as the team did not punt once, the first time in school history. Running back, Edward Saydee, was the star of the show as he scored three touchdowns and tallied 334 all-purpose yards (265 rushing, 69 receiving), good for fourth most in a game in over 50 years.
Keys to the Game

USF opened up the game with the ball. The Bulls would convert 4 out of 5 third downs during their 75-yard drive that ended in a touchdown reception by WR Xavier Weaver, giving the Bulls a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter.

The Owls bounced back with a drive of their own. QB EJ Warner and WR Jose Barbon connected four times for 56 yards on the drive that ended in a field goal. This put Temple on the board, making it a 7-3 USF ballgame.

USF kept the offense going by driving down the field, however a missed field goal attempt would leave the Bulls scoreless on the drive to close out the first quarter.

Temple converted a risky fourth down attempt around mid field on a play to WR Amad Anderson Jr. Along with long rushes from RB Edward Saydee, the Owls entered field goal range where K Camden Price put the team within one, making it 7-6 USF.

The ensuing drive featured the first big play on the defensive side of the ball as SAF Alex Odom picked the ball off around midfield, giving the Owls the ball back with 9:23 remaining in the half.

Off the turnover, the Owls would take the lead off yet another Price field goal, making it 9-7 right before the end of the half.

Temple would get the ball back after a USF punt. Big plays by TE David Martin-Robinson and Saydee would put the Owls in the red zone. The drive was ultimately capped off by a touchdown by RB Darvon Hubbard, putting the Owls up 16-7 with a minute remaining in the half.

The Bulls would make use of their little time however, with the help of a 48-yard kick return by RB Brian Battie. In just 25 seconds, Weaver would catch his second touchdown of the game, making it 16-14.

On the first play of the second half, Saydee continued with his hot hand and took a rush 75-yards to the house to give Temple a two-score 23-14 lead.

USF would bounce right back with a long rush for themselves with RB Jimmy Horn Jr. scoring a 55-yard touchdown run to make the score 23-21.

On the ensuing drive, Saydee kept on steam rolling, tacking on his second touchdown of the day, while adding to Temple's lead to make it 30-21.

Price then kicked his fourth field goal of the day to add onto the Temple lead, 33-21.

The Bulls once again made quick work as WR Hayden Willis capped off a 1:52 minute drive with a touchdown to bring the team within 5, 33-28.

To start the fourth quarter, Warner completed a 21-yard touchdown pass to Barbon. Saydee helped get them to the red zone with a 61-yard reception. This gave Temple a 12-point, 40-28 lead.

LB Jacob Hollins would give the Owls the ball back with a fumble recovery. The team then capitalized off of the turnover with an incredible one-handed touchdown catch by WR Adonicas Sanders. 47-28 Temple.

CB Jalen McMurray forced the third turnover of the day as he forced and recovered a fumble.

Saydee once again found himself in the endzone, scoring his third touchdown of the game, furthering the Temple's lead 54-28.

RB Edward Saydee set career highs in multiple rushing and receiving categories including rushing yards (265), longest rush (75), rushing touchdowns (3), receiving yards (69), and longest reception (69). Both the rushing yards and longest rush are the most in team history since Ryquell Armstead in 2018. Overall, his 334 all purpose yards are the 4th most in a single game in school history.

This game marked the first time in at least 50 years that the team did not punt or turn the ball over the entire game.

The Owls scored the most points (54) since August 31st, 2019 vs. Bucknell.

K Camden Price scored the most points of his career with 18. Price kicked four field goals, marking it the most field goals since Brandon McManus in 2010.

EJ Warner threw for a career high 344 passing yards, marking the first 300 yard passing game of his career.

The game also marked the most total net yards on offense (621) since October 24th, 2020 vs. Memphis.

The first game since October 24th, 2020 to feature a 100 yard rusher (Saydee, 265), receiver (Barbon, 103),and 300 yard passer (Warner, 344) since October 24th, 2020 vs. Memphis.

LB London Hall, OLB Jacob Porter, and DL Zamar Grove made collegiate debuts.
