Women’s Basketball Set for Battle with SEC Foe Ole Miss

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple women's basketball team (5-6, 0-0 AAC) will host SEC opponent Ole Miss (10-2, 0-0 SEC) this Wednesday at Liacouras Center. This will be the first time an SEC team has visited Temple since the Owls took No. 6 South Carolina down to the wire on December, 7, 2019.
LAST TIME OUT: Duquesne 60 @ Temple 66
> Temple claimed victory over the Duquesne Dukes. Temple and Duquesne previously spent 29 years together as members of the Atlantic-10 Conference.
> After a tight first quarter ending in a tie, the Owls dominated the contest. Temple outscored the Dukes by 13 points in the second and third quarters. Duquesne made a late comeback attempt in the final frame, but it was too little, too late to overcome the deficit.
> Point guard Aleah Nelson had one of the best performances of any Temple women's basketball player in recent memory. Nelson put up 33 points, the most of any Temple women's basketball player since Mia Davis on Feb. 5, 2019. She also found the basket for her 1000th point early in the third quarter. She is the 26th 1000-point scorer in program history.
THE OWLS
> Temple as a unit has rebounded well from a slow start to the season. After dropping five of the first seven games, the Owls are 3-1 in their last four, with the lone loss coming by one point to Penn. TU is +34 in scoring margin in its last four.
> Point guard Aleah Nelson is back on top of the American Athletic Conference in terms of scoring. She leads all players with 16.2 ppg. Nelson is also second in the league in assists, finding her teammates for 4.8 apg. She also ranks eighth in field goal percentage (.413), fourth in three-point percentage (.386), and fifth in free throw percentage (.718).
> Wing Tiarra East continues to find ways to impact the game. After the best week of her Temple career (24 ppg, 7.5 rpg), she scored only five points, but tied for the game-high in rebounds (10) and blocks (2) against Duquesne. East is second on the squad in points per contest (11.8) and leads in rebounds (6.6 rpg).
> Guard Jasha Clinton ranks third on the team in scoring with 10.4 point per contest. Clinton also ranks second on the team in assists (2.8 apg) and is pulling down 3.5 rebounds per game.
SCOUTING OLE MISS
> Ole Miss had a very strong 2021-22 season, earning its first NCAA tournament appearance since 2007. The Rebels defeated three ranked opponents en route to a 23-9 record on the year. They fell in the first round of the tournament to South Dakota.
> This season in shaping up to be another strong campaign for the squad. Ole Miss currently sits at 10-2, with its only losses coming against ranked opponents Utah and Oklahoma by a combined 12 points. They have won three in a row.
> Madison Scott is a player to watch for the Rebels. The forward is nearly averaging a double-double, with 10.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. She has five double-doubles on the season, including 19 points and 17 boards against Jacksonville last week.
> Yolett McPhee-McCuin has led an incredible turnaround in Oxford. McPhee-McCuin has taken a program with zero SEC wins in 2019-20 to its first NCAA tournament in 15 years last season. She is 158-131 in her career and 64-68 in her five years at Ole Miss.
