12.23.22 | Men's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA - Three Temple men's soccer players have earned recognition as members of the Philadelphia Soccer Six All-Rookie team. Midfielder George Medill, Midfielder/Defender Draven Barnett, and Defender Sawyer Koza were honored. Barnett also received All-Rookie honors from the American Athletic Conference.
Â
After not seeing the field in the first two matches of the season, Medill appeared 14 straight games, making his first start in his second appearance against Penn. The native Kansan secured his first collegiate point with an assist in Temple's 3-1 win over Saint Peter's. He recorded his first career shot, as well as his first full 90 later in the season against FIU. Medill became a staple of the lineup going down the back half of the season, starting the last seven games of the year. He scored his first career goal against No. 22 Tulsa, as well as putting up his second career full 90. He also assisted in the season finale against Charlotte.
Â
Barnett was one of Temple's most consistent players in 2022, finishing the season second on the team in minutes (1185). The Springfield, Missouri native showed off his versatility in his rookie campaign, spending time in both the midfield and on the backline. Of the 14 games Barnett played and started, he only exited two. The freshman earned Philly Soccer Six Rookie of the Week in the first week of the season. He recorded his first shot against Saint Peter's and found his first collegiate point against No. 22 Tulsa with an assist.
Â
Koza led all Temple freshmen in points, with three goals and two assists. After seeing the field sporadically in the early parts of the season, the freshman broke out with a full 90 minutes against Lafayette and truly found his form with two goals against Saint Peter's. He started every game he appeared in for the remainder of the season. The defender assisted on a goal at USF, he later scored and assisted in back-to-back games against Stony Brook and No. 22 Tulsa.
