2.24.22 | Men's Tennis

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple men's tennis squad is set to return to the court after more than a two-week break with an action-packed weekend. The Cherry and White will host Siena at 11 a.m. on Friday morning at the Cherry Hill Racquet Club before taking on Monmouth at the Hecht Tennis Center on the campus of UPenn at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

The Owls
  • The Owls enter the match with a 1-2 record, picking up their first win in their most recent match against Saint Francis Brooklyn. The Cherry and White had a stellar performance, knocking off the Terriers by a dominant score of 6-1.
  • The Cherry and White dropped the doubles point to St. Francis but bounced back quickly, collecting all six singles points to earn the victory.
  • Marin Delmas has started off the season claiming the No. 1 position in both singles and doubles play for the Owls, going 2-1 in singles and 1-2 in doubles with partner Louis Gorregues
  • Last year, Temple posted an 11-5 record, including a perfect 3-0 home record and five sweeps.
Scouting Siena
  • The Saint's enter the match with a 3-4 record, currently on a two-match win streak, triumphing over Colgate, 7-0 and Saint Francis Brooklyn, 4-3.
  • The doubles pair of Matt Nardone and Austin Suarez had a successful fall campaign after making program history at the ITA Regional tournament, advancing to the main draw Round of 16.
  • Like many other teams across the country, Siena faced a shortened season last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, participating in only 8 matches where they posted an even 4-4 record.
Scouting Monmouth
  • Monmouth enters the match unbeaten, winning each of their four matches in 7-0 sweeps to sit at No. 56 in the ITA National Rankings.
  •  The Hawks have already scooped up two MAAC Player of the Week honors this season with Niels Van Noord earning recognition after a dominant showing from the No. 1 spot against Wagner while Dmitry Bezborodov was recognized after a two-win week over Villanova and Drexel.
  • Monmouth had a successful run last year, going 14-3 and clinching their fifth consecutive MAAC Championship in a 4-2 victory over Fairfield.
  • The Hawks advanced to the first round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to No. 9 UCF, 0-4.
