PHILADELPHIA – Former Temple men's crew captain, Lasse Grimmer has been selected to row for Cambridge University in this year's Boat Race. Grimmer will be competing for Goldie in this year's second eights race.
"We are incredibly excited for Lasse to be able to compete on the world stage again," said Temple head coach Brian Perkins. "Lasse continues Temple Crew's proud tradition of high caliber competition whether it is the Boat Race, National Teams, or even Olympic rowing."
"We are all proud to call Lasse, a Temple guy", said Coach Fergal Barry. "He is a great guy, a great student and a great teammate. At Temple he excelled in both the classroom and on the water. We wish Lasse, Rob Baker, and all at Cambridge boats the best of luck in next month's race."
Grimmer, who graduated in 2021, will compete in Cambridge's second boat (Goldie). The Boat Race is a side-by-side race between the University of Oxford and Cambridge University on the Thames River. The first race was held in 1829 and is one of the world's oldest and most famous amateur sporting events.
The Boat Race takes place in London on the famous Championship Course. This course stretches over 4.25 miles of tidal Thames in West London between Putney and Mortlake. The Boat Race sees over 250,000 spectators at the banks of the river.
Grimmer, a native of Erlangen, Germany, is studying Education in Hugues Hall. He is a former silver medalist from the Junior World Championship and a 2021 Dad Vails Champion.
