Two Fencers Selected for NCAA Championships
3.15.22 | Women's Fencing
Fencers will compete in a round-robin format of five-touch bouts. After round-robin, the top-four finishers in each weapon will fence in semifinal 15-touch bouts, with winners fencing to determine first and second places, and non-advancing fencers being awarded a tie for third place.
An institution's place finish in the championships will be based on points earned by each individual. A team will be awarded one point for each victory by its student-athletes during round-robin competition.
"We are very excited to have two fencers representing Temple University at the NCAA Championships," head coach Dr. Nikki Franke said. "They are one of only 24 fencers in their weapon to be selected to compete at the tournament, and both Naomi and Anna will be attending for the very first time. Anna is a first-year student so all of this is new to her, Naomi qualified in 2020 but the week before the Championships were to be held, they were canceled due to COVID. They are both very excited and we can't wait to see what they can accomplish."
At the NCAA Regionals last weekend, Ross placed third while Novoseltseva placed seventh in their respective weapons.
