Women's Gymnastics' Ariana Castrence Named EAGL Co-Gymnast of the Week

PHILADELPHIAÂ - Temple women's gymnastics senior Ariana Castrence was named the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Co-Gymnast of the Week on Wednesday after outstanding performances at No. 29 NC State and George Washington last weekend, announced by the league.
Castrence tallied 9.8's or better on six of her seven events she took part in, with season-high scores on the vault, bars, floor, and in the all-around. Â Overall, the Waldorf, Md. pocketed five top-three finishes, including first-place finishes on the bars, vault, and the all-around.

At the G.W. Tri-Meet, Castrence scored the win on both the bars and vault with matching 9.875's and earned her second all-around win this season with a 39.200.

Castrence played a vital role in the record-setting win at No. 29 NC State last Friday as she earned a pair of third-places finishes, a pair of 9.850s, and a career-high 9.9 on the bars. At the end of the day, the team earned the school record on the beam (49.300), vault (49.200), and overall team score of 196.675.

Week eight of the weekly rankings has Castrence ranked sixth in the EAGL on the vault with an NQS score of 9.825. Â

Temple gymnastics is ranked No. 41 in the latest NQS rankings and will be in action tomorrow, March 3 and March 6 in a pair of home meets in McGonigle Hall. Thursday's meet will start at 6 p.m. and will feature Maryland, Southern Connecticut State, and Bridgeport. Sunday the Owls will host Senior Day at 4:30 p.m. as they take on New Hampshire and West Chester.
