Gymnastics Scores 195.775 on Alumni Night, Finishes in Second-Place in Quad Meet

3.3.22 | Women's Gymnastics

PHILADELPHIA – Women's gymnastics welcomed Maryland, Bridgeport, and Southern Connecticut State inside McGonigle Hall on Thursday night as they scored 195.775. Maryland won the meet with a 196.550, SCSU scored 188.950, and Bridgeport finished in fourth place with a 186.450.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

> Owls' Ariana Castrence earned the victory on the vault with a career-high 9.9, marking the third time this season that the senior earned the win on the apparatus. She also tied her season-high during the all-around with a 39.275, marking the second time in her career she's hit this mark, and the second time this season a Temple gymnast would tie the third-best score in school history.

> Temple earned 49-plus scores in three of the four events, marking the third time they achieved that mark this season.

> The Terrapins earned event wins in all four facets and scored 49-pluses in each.

> Maryland's Aleka Tsiknias earned the win on the parallel bars with a 9.925, and Audrey Barber earned the win on the beam and floor with a 9.925.

 

VAULT

> Temple came out in the first rotation, scoring 49.100, its third-best score this season on vault.

> The Cherry and White started on the vault, where four of the six gymnasts scored a 9.8 or better, including Castrence's career-high 9.9.

> Freshman Anna Hill matched her career on the vault with a 9.850, good for second place behind her teammate, Castrence.

> Hannah Stallings added a 9.8, her third score of 9.8 or better this season, and senior Julianna Roland added her sixth 9.8-plus score this season, tallying a 9.850.

 

BARS

> TU scored its third-highest season output on the bars with a 49.000 in rotation two.

> Freshman Sarah Stallings led the Owls in the rotation as she scored a 9.850, finishing in third place overall, following up a career-high 9.875 from last week's George Washington Tri-Meet.

> Senior Caitlin Gray had an outstanding performance as she scored a career-high 9.825, good for a top 10 finish.

> Castrence also added her second consecutive 9.8 or better score on bars this season with a 9.8.

> Brooke Donabedian and Hannah Stallings rounded out the Owls' bars team with matching 9.75's.

 

BEAM

> Castrence also led the Temple beam team with a 9.8, tying for third overall, and marking the fifth straight meet, she has achieved a 9.8 or better.

> Sophomore Renee Schugman had a strong showing for the Cherry and White as she scored a 9.750.

 

FLOOR

> The Owls ended the meet just like they started it, scoring a 49.100.

> Four of the six TU gymnasts scored a 9.8 or better, led by the anchor Donabedian who scored a 9.875, finishing second-overall, her ninth straight 9.8 or better this season.

> Faith Leary also had an excellent performance on the floor, finishing with a 9.850, good for fourth place overall on the night.

> Schugman and Tori Edwards shared sixth place with matching 9.8's.


Temple returns to action on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. as they take on the University of New Hampshire and West Chester. After the meet, the Owls will recognize seniors Julianna Roland, Ariana Castrence, Caitlin Gray, Tori Edwards, Faith Leary, Nichole Smith, and student assistant coaches Jackie Terpak and Taylor Newland.
