No. 18 Lacrosse Concludes Road Stretch Against UMBC

BALTIMORE- The No. 18 Temple lacrosse team (4-1) concludes their longest road stretch of the season this week as they square off against the UMBC Retrievers. This will be the Owls' second game in just three days after they defeated Kennesaw State Wednesday 19-11.

LAST TIME OUT
> Temple moved back into the win column 19-11 on Wednesday. Kennesaw State put up a good fight in the first half before Temple kicked things into high gear.
> Belle Mastropietro continued her absolutely outstanding season with her best performance yet. The midfielder tied for the game-high with four goals, passed for three assists (new career-high), picked up two ground balls, and single-handedly matched Kennesaw State in draw controls with 14 (also a career-high).
> McGowan set a new season-high with four goals. Nicolai earned her fourth hat-trick in five games thus far alongside an assist and two draw controls.
> Mackenzie Roth scored two goals and tied for her career-high four assists.

SCOUTING TEMPLE
> Temple has moved up two spots in the IWLCA/Inside Lacrosse Poll for the second straight week. The Owls check-in at No. 18, their highest ranking since the NCAA began tracking poll history in 2009.                       
> Quinn Nicolai has made noise on the national level this season. She is tied for 12th in the nation in goals (16) and is ranked 18th in the Statistical Tewaaraton advanced metric rankings. Nicolai is also tied for 3rd the AAC lead in ground balls per game (2.5). She was awarded AAC Midfielder of the Week for the week of 2/21 and was runner-up to Inside Lacrosse National Player of the Week.
> Belle Mastropietro has been playing at an All-American level. The AAC Preseason Midfielder of the Year is second in the conference in goals (18) and leads the AAC in draw controls per game (6.60) by an enormous margin. She has scored a hat-trick in four out of the five games Temple has played this season, the only one she did not score a hat-trick was a two-goal performance where she left early due to injury.
> Mackenzie Roth is playing her best lacrosse so far this season. She scored two goals and passed for four assists against Princeton. Her four assists tie her career-high. She ranks second in the American with 2.40 assists per game and is seventh in points per game (3.80).
 
SCOUTING UMBC
> UMBC is coming off a solid 2021 season. The Retrievers went 6-6 and earned spot in the American East tournament where they fell to Stony Brook.
> UMBC has looked strong thus far this season. The team is 3-1 with blowout wins over Longwood, American, and George Washington.
> Amy Slade is her tenth season leading the Retrievers. Slade was an all-time great at the University of Virginia where she played in the national title game. Slade is 71-69 during her time at UMBC.
> UMBC was picked to finish second in the America East preseason poll behind nationally-ranked Stony Brook. The team has a strong core of returning players, including last week's America East Offensive Player of the Week Claire Bockstie, and Dymin Gerow. They also added freshman Kolby Weedon, who has twice been named America East Freshman of the Week.

SERIES HISTORY vs. UMBC
> UMBC is one of the only teams on the schedule this season that began playing women's lacrosse before Temple (1973 vs 1975).
> Temple and UMBC are meeting for the ninth time in series history. The Owls lead 7-1.
> The two sides last met in 2020, with Temple taking a 10-7 victory on North Broad.
