Temple Honors Dr. Nikki Franke, 50th Anniversary of Temple Fencing

PHILADELPHIA - After concluding its 50th season on North Broad last month, Temple Athletics honored head coach Dr. Nikki Franke and the fencing program for 50 successful years on the strip. The anniversary also coincides with the 50th year of Title IX, a federal civil rights law that prohibits sex-based discrimination in any school or other education program that receives funding from the federal government.
Alumnae, former coaches, and friends of the program were welcomed back to Temple's campus to celebrate the rich history of Temple fencing, with representatives from each decade of the program (1970s to present) speaking on what the team and Franke meant and continues to mean to them. The banquet ended with the presentation of a commemorative trophy to Franke in recognition of the program that she founded and still leads.
