Men’s Crew Earns Five Medals at Murphy Cup Regatta

PHILADELPHIA – Temple men's crew had a successful day of racing at the 39th Memorial Murphy Cup Saturday on the Schuylkill River. The Owls competed in six events, earning one gold and three silver and a bronze medal. The team competed against 13 schools in morning heats and afternoon finals.
Top of the Podium
>Temple won the Freshman 8 event
>Temple grabbed the silver in the Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8, and Varsity 4 "A".
>Temple took bronze in the Varsity 4 "B".
From the Coach
"The freshman eight had a dominant performance for a great way to start their season and their college sprint career," said head coach Brian Perkins. "Our 4s did very well getting second and third against the top four schools. The 1V and 2V came in second to our city rival. Ultimately we want to use the next couple of weeks to close that gap and be ready for a run at the Dad Vails."
Varsity Eight
> Temple's top boat in the morning heat recorded a 5:54.33 to outpace Lehigh, Washington College, and Fairfield.
> In the finals, the Owls took home the silver with a time of 5:25.03, four seconds behind Drexel.
Second Varsity Eight
> The Cherry and White went straight to the grand finals. The Owls placed took the silver, recording a time of 5:54.76 with Drexel again earning gold.
Freshman Eight
> The Owls went straight to the grand finals. The Owls won the gold medal, recording a time of 5:57.70 to outpace Delaware and Rutgers.
Fours
> Temple's Varsity Four "A" placed second in its heat with a time of 6:45.56. In the finals the Owls were three seconds shy of La Salle and took home the silver medal with a time of 6:37.06.
> The Owls' Varsity Four "B" placed first in their heat with a time of 6:43.42. In the finals the Owls grabbed bronze with a time of 6:54.56.
>Temple's Varsity 4 "C" placed fourth in the morning heat with a time of 7:00.150.
