Strachan Breaks Program Record at Big 5 Meet

PHILADELPHIA - Tannekee Strachan broke her second program record of the 2022 campaign as the track and field team capped off a successful showing at the Big 5 Meet at Franklin Field.
Strachan, who broke the school's indoor record for the triple jump earlier this year, broke the triple jump outdoor record this afternoon with a jump of 12.66 meters. The previous record was set back in 2014 when Jamila Janneh leaped to a mark of 12.41m.
Meanwhile, a few of Temple's distance runners ventured down to Williamsburg, Va. for the Colonial Relays.
Meet Highlights (Big 5 Meet):
Nicole Castor and Sophia Gulotti competed in the javelin throw for the first time in their careers, coming in second and third place, respectively.
Later in the day, freshman Amira Green set a personal-best in high jump with a leap of 1.65m while Jaaliyah Evans made her Temple track and field debut with a mark of 1.55m to tie with Castor.
Along with Strachan's school record in the triple jump, she also set a personal-best in the long jump with a mark of 5.80m while freshman Allyson Metzger jumped to a peronal-best 5.21m.
The Owls shined in the 100m dash as well as the Cherry & White took three of the top four spots. Chelby Elam took the top spot with a time of 12.05 while Christal Pommells and Marissa White sprinted to the second and fourth spots, respectively.
White (2nd), Elam (3rd), and Pommells (4th) took three of the top four spots in the 200m dash as Pommells set a personal-best time of 25.06.
In the final event of the day for the Owls, Emily Schuler took the third spot with a time of 4:42.86.
Meet Highlights (Colonial Relays):
Distance runners Helene Gottlieb, Michelle Joyce, and Laura Nicholson placed on the podium.
In the 800m run, Gottlieb placed second with a time of 2:10.03. Later on, Nicholson (4:29.99) and Gottlieb (4:32.29) took the second and third spots in the 1,500 meter run.
Lastly, Joyce took the first-place spot in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 35:18.55.

"Overall, we are very happy with the performances that we had this weekend both in Philadelphia and from the distance runners in Williamsburg.
