Track and Field Dominates at Temple Invite on Senior Day

PHILADELPHIA - Competing on their home track at the Temple Sports Complex, the Owls enjoyed a strong performance as multiple athletes won their individual events on Friday afternoon at the Temple Invite. Midway through the event, the Owls honored five members of the track & field and cross country teams: Sean Egan, Helene Gottlieb, Mary Olayinka Ilellaboye, Michelle Joyce, and Emma Seifried.

Meet Highlights (Temple Invite):
To begin the day, Tannekee Strachan and Amira Green took the top spots in the long jump and high jump events, respectively. Strachan leaped to a mark of 5.68m while Green set a personal-best once again, posting a jump of 1.66m. Nicole Castor and Sophia Gulotti had a good showing as well, posting jumps of 1.56m to tie for third place.

In the 100m dash, the Owls impressed by taking five of the top six spots as Chelby Elam took home the win with a time of 11.95 seconds, followed closely behind by second-place, Christal Pommells.

Pommells and Elam finished one-two once again in the 200m dash, this time reversing the order as Pommells took the top spot with a time of 24.68.

In the 400m dash, Temple's Marissa White won in dominating fashion, winning the event with a time of 54.44 seconds to defeat second-place by over three full seconds.

In the 4x100 and 4x400 relays, the Cherry & White continued its impressive day, taking the gold in both events.

Closing out the day with the distance runs, on the men's side, Jeppe Risvig took the top spot in 1,500m run with a time of 3:57.28 while Cole Frank also broke the four-minute mark, posting a time of 3:59.54.

In the same event for the women, Temple's Helene Gottlieb and Michelle Joyce took the second and third spots.

To finish the day, Temple's Erik Kain and Sean Egan place one-two in the 5k run as both athletes broke the 15-minute mark. Lastly, on the women's side in the 5k run, the Owls placed all five runners in the top-five as Laura Nicholson took home the win with a time of 17:10.31

"It was very nice to be able to race at our home track and put on a good event for the fans. Chelby and Christal had very good days today in the sprints while Amira posted another personal-best in the high jump, so it is always nice to see that progression."
